Each week I'm trying out 1 new recipe. I am really a bad cook and baker, but the only way to learn is by doing!
So far I've roasted cabbage which I loved but the rest of the family gag on it.
Then tonight I made an apple pie from scratch. Not sure how it will turn out since it's still baking.

Try roasted brussel sprouts with a little olive oil and bacon instead of cabbage.

Anyone have a good recipe for saltines? I'm still hammering those.

Just add peanut butter or butter Leia.

Sounds really good Sheila..

I will try that with the brussell sprouts. At least they are smaller portions, eating half a cabbage is a little much.

This week my neighbor across the street had his apple trees really come in. 8 apple trees, almost 20 bushels of apples and he gave me 6 or 7 bushels. So I made up the apple pie filling and I canned it. I have jars and jars of apple pie filling. So whenever I want apple turnovers, apple pie, or ice cream or yogurt topping, I can just open a jar. For those of you without canning supplies, you can freeze it. Wait until it's cold (you have to cook it to a boil) and then spoon into gallon zip locks and then press flat so it stores better.

I'm so jealous of all of canned goods Leia. You're one hard working woman.

I have a double oven at home, but I only use 1. The top oven is too hard for me to reach without a stool.

Leia I am truly impressed with all the canning and peeping you do. Are you starting to get past the morning sickness? Did you crack open that egg?

We did not crack open that egg yet, but I'm SO tempted. I wonder what the heck is in it. Maybe a dragon. Haha. The morning sickness is definitely subsiding. But I still get waves of it now and then.

Saturday night canned chili sauce. Someone tell me what the heck I'm going to do with 8 half pints of chili sauce.

Leia 14 weeks seems like your so far along! When do you get to do your gender scan?
Yum on the chili. I want to come to your house and raid your pantry freezer and fridge. I wouldn't mind the food coma.

I need to find a new recipe to try out for the week. If I'm really feeling ambitious, 2!

Try your hand at a nice vege soup....

Half fill a big pot with some vege broth and water.. or water and vege broth cubes bring to a boil

dice a large onion
stalk or 2 of celery
3-4 carrots sliced into coins--throw carrots in about 5 minutes before potato...then
2 big potatoes diced up to match the same size as the carrots
throw a can or 2 of kidney beans in
handful of rice
then add a can of crushed tomatoes

season up with herbs and taste...add salt and pepper as needed

It is as easy as 123.... serves with some crusty rolls!

Libby I will try the vegetable soup. Something I can just throw in my crockpot.

Sheila that egg would of freaked me out. Hopefully you caught it before you added it to the rest of your eggs.

Leia what can I say, you're Wonder Woman of the kitchen and farm!!
I love mash potatoes with cheese and sour cream.

I still haven't figured out what new recipe I'll try and I'm already on more than half way through the week. Now that school has gotten under way, I'm so busy with my volunteering.

Ok, so for our anniversary dinner DH brought home Lobsters and I made what else, mashed potatoes with broccoli (from the garden of course), cheese, sour cream and chives (from the garden of course). DS had a burger, we haven't gotten him to eat lobster yet.

Lobster was a BIG mistake. I took two bites and I thought I was going to lose it right at the table. So sea food is out for a while. I had to stick with the potatoes. DH ate the rest of my lobster. I was disappointed. I love lobster.

Recipe for today:

Lasagna with eggplant and sausage:
Layer your noodles with ricotta, sauce and grilled eggplant, then next layer with ricotta, sauce and sausage. Smother in mozzarella. Bake.

We make our own sauce of course with tomatoes from the garden and venison burger (we didn't grow the venison in the garden, but DH did shoot it nearby).

Leia that just sucks!! I love crab and I would be so upset if I couldn't eat it. Hope the mash potatoes were enough to fill you up? I was happy when my oldest started liking crab, but the kid can eat a whole one by himself. At first I had to take the hell off the crab, but now he does it on his own.

Sheila what a waste of eggs..ERRRRR!

Rae I love chili dogs. I think that is what's for lunch. I have to use can chili though. I can see everyone shudder at the thought.
