I'm new to this so bear with me, lol

When using an opk, should I be doing it twice a day or is once sufficient?
Also, how long does the LH surge last/show on a stick?
And last, what if it happens, say at 9pm...will it show the next morning or is it gone by then?

I've been testing first thing in the morning only. Is that wrong?

Sherry, I've never actually used OPK's, but I have read quite a few posts from people who do. I can tell you that I've learned you DO NOT want to use FMU because the LH will always be more concentrated and you could get a false positive.

If I were to use them, I would probably test twice a day like at 11 am then maybe 6 pm or so. But my cycles are so out of whack that I would probably blow thru my entire stockpile in a week and never see a positive. Which is another reason I've never used them.

I have no idea how long a positive will show, but I've read posts where women are saying they've had positive OPK's anywhere from 3 to 8 days in a row. I assume you're supposed to use the last positive day as the true surge day. But then I've also read about women getting positive OPK's a week or so after they had supposedly already O'd.

All in all I'm sure they are a great tool. And coupled with BBT charting are an accurate way to predict and confirm ovulation. But it seems like they can also cause a lot of confusion, especially when used alone.

I'm hoping Renee will be able to answer this question a little more knowlegably for you, I'm pretty sure she uses OPK's. I just wanted to put my out there.

A little late replying...

Digital OPK's per the directions you use the FMU.
IC testing later in the day.

I use IC's 2x a day and once I start seeing the test line darken, I start using the CB digital. Once I get a positive on the IC and CB digital I test 3 x a day until I get a negative.

Hopefully you caught the egg this month and you won't have to deal with OPK's next month.

Thank you, ladies! I hope so too! If not, I think I'm going to use regular ones along w/digi since I'm gonna have test sticks leftover.
Its day 4 of flashing smiley, ugh. I'll keep testing till I get the peak.
We'll bd thru the weekend & see what happens I guess.
It's when I would normally O anyway so time will tell!

Hooray!!! I relied on digis too. I used the sticks for a year or two and used them with FMU and at 1 PM and I almost never got a positive.

I used the digis with FMU and as soon as I got the smiley, I saved the rest for the next month.

So if you got a smiley, then go bury that sausage! Twice!
