Please make sure you have done lesson 1 first, before starting this one.

Layer Styles are one of my favorite things in photoshop. There are so many things you can do with them, but i will just show you the basics for now.

Step 1
Let's start with the template in lesson one. I will show you how you can change the colors. Once you have that open. Click on your background layer, choose a color from your swatch and use the paintbucket to change the color of your background. Now for the dots. Click on the first dot layer. On your top menu, go to LAYERS > LAYER STYLES > COLOR OVERLAY. It should bring up a box that looks like this:

Make sure the little preview box is checked. Click on the little red box, it will bring up another box that looks like a spectrum of sorts. You don't have to choose from those colors. You can actually then move over to your swatches and pick your color from there. That should change your dots to the color you picked. Hit okay and okay again. Now, right click on the dot layer that you just changed the color of. Choose to "Copy Layer Style" and then right click on the dot layer that still needs to be changed and "Paste Layer Style". This should change the color of those dots and Voila!

Step 2
Now, we are going to learn how to add a stroke to our text layers. Create a layer of text. Whatever you want that will fit. So this is what I have:

The problem is that with my color choices, you can't reall read the text! This is where stroke comes into play. On your top menu, go to LAYERS > LAYER STYLES > STROKE. It will brink up a box similar to Step 1. Click on the red box and pick a color you want to outline your text. Usually lighter colors work better, like white, but it depends on what your background color is too. Just whatever works for you. After you choose your color, change your stroke size from 3 to 2 px. I think it looks a little better, but if you want it at 3, leave it at 3. Click okay and this is what I have:

See how much better you can read that!

Step 3
Play around with layer styles yourself. You can add more than one style to each layer. If you ever want to just start over, right click on your layer and choose "Clear Layer Style". The layer styles that I use most frequently are: Stoke, Outer Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Drop Shadow and Gradient Overlay.

I am going to leave you with that for now, but I will be back! Next we will do multiple text frames! Woo HOO! You may even want to play around with some of our FFA requests that have already been picked up for practice!

Here is your diploma!
