Today we went in for our third and final u/s at the recurrent m/c clinic and found out that there is increased swelling behind the babies neck (I think this refers to nuchal translucency but the dr never used that term). The dr phoned a materal fetal medicine specialist and got them to look at the u/s images and they concurred that the results look abnormal. We go to the genetics department in the BC women's hospital on thursday and hopefully we can get some further answers. I truly hope that it's a false alarm but I also realize that this could end badly. We were just starting to settle into this pregnancy and now I feel like our whole world has been turned upside-down. I will update you all after our appt on Thursday.

Update:
Unfortunately, the specialist told us today that the baby will not survive. The fluid around the baby is very severe; the terms used were cystic hygroma and hydrops. We have decided to go ahead with chorionic villus sampling and do genetic testing. This could be a chromosomal issue which would mean we just had a serious run of bad luck and this pregnancy could have been healthy and the underlying reason for our losses did not effect it (we have done genetic testing on a few of our losses and they all came back normal). It could also be something less obvious which may help us find a definitive genetic reason for our losses. We are upset because we really thought this pregnancy was going to be successful but we are hopeful that this may give us answers.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the support. We get the CVS done on Wednesday and then we wait to get the results which may take a couple weeks.

I'm taking that to mean you're going to continue with the pregnancy at least until you have definitive answers?

Yes, the baby is still growing and has a good heart rate. I know that the dr is sure that it will not survive but I am holding on to a bit of hope. I just can't give up at this point.

from someone who chose to terminate based on half results I support your decision 100%. Knowing that my boys would not have lived helps, but knowing that there was always the possibility they'd be wrong and I'd killed them will always be with me.

We are here for you if you need us. Feel free to PM me if you need to talk hun! I check in here a few times a day, but that little "someone wants you!" pop up I get from PM's works more efficiently.

Thank you, I know in my heart that I am making the right decision for the moment and that I am unwilling to terminate without knowing what is wrong or without further proof that the baby will definitely not survive. The drs are willing to work hard to figure out what's wrong and find all the answers I am looking for. I have hope that maybe a miracle will happen. My greatest wish is that the swelling will be noticeably less when we go in for the CVS tomorrow. Thanks again, you all are always a great support.

The appt yesterday went okay, the CVS procedure itself wasn't that bad. It was sad to watch the baby on the screen, wiggling around and kicking, knowing that it's little heart will stop beating at some point in the near future. The fluid has not gone away - if anything there is a little bit more. I was really hoping that it would be better. The medical genetics department will give us the results in two weeks from now.

I hope that the next two weeks are not too hard on you. I too was hoping you'd come on today with news of lower fluid and a better outlook. I will continue to have good thoughts for you and your husband, and of course your baby.

Hi, I am new here and this is actually my first post. I just wanted to tell you good luck, and that I am sending good thoughts and prayers your way. I have also suffered from multiple m/c, I know there is hope for all of us in one way or another. Here is a bit of hope, *This lady used to be my neighbor until I moved, but a few years after I moved she got pregnant, the doctors told her the baby had a low heart rate, and some other things didn't look good so they scheduled her for a dnc the next week. BUT when she got there, they did an ultrasound at her request, The baby had a good heart rate and the abnormalities that they saw before were not there anymore.. their baby girl is a few months old now probably closer to 1 and healthy as can be.* Please stay hopeful as long as possible. I try to, it is hard I know, but hope is all we have.
