Hi all,
I posted this in the general pregnancy board, but figured you all might know the answer. I was exposed to the flu this past weekend, and just found out I'm 4.5 weeks along. When I went to my local health foods store, the nutritionist (plus a few of the ladies there) recommended elderberry tablets (sambuca) to help my immune system. I took them for 3 days and tonight decided to do some research on it. Found out that its not recommended for pregnancy...can any of you help me alleviate my anxiety about taking it for a few days? I'm freaking out. Especially this early on.

Thank you! I am stopping it tonight, so hopefully no ill effects....

This says it's a-ok.
Wise Use of Herbs and Vitamins During Pregnancy

This site says it's not recommended based on theoretical (seriously?) risk.
Elder (Sambucas nigra L.)

This site doesn't recommend the actual PLANT because of possible cyanide toxicity - however you're not sitting there chomping away on the plant.
Elderberry - Some Useful Benefits while Using Elderberry

The bark, leaves, seeds and raw/unripe fruit are the potential dangers.

According to this site, there are no known restrictions for pregnant or lactating women.

I'd say you're fine

I guess I'd better throw away my Elderberry root, stem, berry and leaf salad I'm eating for breakfast then!

Thank you SO much for your response....I had to force myself to stop thinking and worrying last night so I could sleep. My husband's response? "Stop reading". Gotta love boys.
