The first step is compromise, and you already know it.
1.) That "feeling" you get when you're about to eat or drink something you know you shouldn't, don't. Find a healthier alternative. EVERY time you overcome this urge to go for what is "bad" your willpower becomes stronger ♥
2.) Exercise daily. Start off with a 10min yoga video on youtube or some simple stretches.
3.) Meditate once a day. Start off with 3-5 min a day. Don't do it on your bed though, as your brain is programmed to want to sleep.
4.) After you've beat number 1, incorporate even healthier eating habits into your life. Research as to why this is working. You'll see amazing information and it will only motivate you to learn more and do more.

You will notice that you are no longer who you used to be, you're becoming the person, or have already succeeded in becoming the person you want to be.
Less stress! - you'll notice you can handle many situations that used to make you go off the deep end
Dreams - If you're in that "dark place" you will be coming out of it, and will remember your dreams or find new ones and want to pursue them!
