Randy, Danny and I went to Las Vegas yesterday ... just for a few hours. We left at about 8am and got there at about 12:45pm. Talk about a long frickin drive! My sister in law Mary (the one who lives in Colorado) was visiting Vegas for the week with one of her girlfriends. We had a lot of fun though. We walked the strip - yes WALKED - and the temperature outside was 120. Yes, you read that right, 120. We walked from Mary's hotel to a different hotel and back - it took 45 minutes EACH way. Stupid, stupid me wore platform sandals ... and midcalf capri pants ... needless to say, my ankles are so swollen this morning! My feet hurt SO bad and my legs. When we were walking I got so hot my fingers started to throb and swell up. That couldn't be normal, could it? LOL!! There was so much porn all over the streets, it was pretty funny. Business cards with naked ladies and stuff ... I kept picking them up and saying "oooh honey (to Randy), she's a hottie!". You know how in most cities they have those plastic contraptions that hold newspapers? Well, in Vegas those contraptions hold escort ads and free porn! It was great! LOL ... We left at about 7 ... and got home at 11:30. Made really good time, I think.
Sounds like you had a great time. Sorry about the heat. When we went to Vegas it was in Late October/early November and it was very very windy and cool at night, but very warm during the day. I lol'ed about your comment on the nice assortment of "literature" there. I was a bit shocked by it all.
We walked the strip as well, it was great fun. Altho I was 7 mos pregnant with dd#2 so platform heels were not an option!
Our first time to Vegas, (in april of 03) the night our flight came in we stayed the street off of the blvd. We decided that we were going to walk the strip so we walked to the Stratosphere ALL THE WAY to Mandalay Bay. Not realizing that we had just walked 9 miles.... 1/2 mile each way to the strip and the strip is 8 miles long.
So the rest of the time we were there we took advantage of the monorails from some hotels to hotels and such. But definitely alot of walking.
