Why do these things always happen when dh is away?
He's away for the week, the older kids were spending the night with their grandparents. So it was just me & Matthew (almost 3) today. We went out for lunch, brought it home. While I was unlocking the door to our backporch, Matthew fell down the steps and cracked his head open on the outside wall of the house (the stone foundation with all the pointy sharp edges!).
He ended up getting 2 staples in his head
He was such a GOOD BOY! Holy moly! He only cried for about as long as it took me to clean the blood up (all over his hands from touching it). Then he wanted to eat his chicken & fries before we could go to the ER for him to be fixed up

He let the nurse poke at it and clean it, he let the doctors poke at it and clean it again. The only time he yelled was when the nurse held his head down. He didn't really cry from pain so much as from being pissed off about having his head held down LOL!
After being such a brave boy, I took him to walmart to pick out a "roo-roo truck" (firetruck, anything with sirens). He also wheedled out of me Cheetos, Buzz Lightyear stickers, and popcorn
Suprisingly enough, it doesn't seem to bother him much. I gave him some motrin when we got home (to ward off the inevitable headache). The only time he tried to mess with the staples was when he was falling asleep. He's been zonked for a while now.
Anyway, we get to go through it in reverse in 7days to have them out.

Jeesh, I've had three of my four kids in the ER for stitches in just the last 5 months! I went nearly 12yrs with NO stitches in any kid ..to three in such a short time. I think I've met my quota LOL!

I was surprised they did staples too. The dr wanted to do stitches, but the nurses ganged up on him to do the staples because they are quicker and less traumatic than stitches (probably because he wouldn't need to be held down as long). And since it's on the back of his head under his hair, stitches to reduce scarring really wasn't necessary.

They are gross though

Better this time than I was in February (my first trip w/ kids to the ER for stitches...my middle two collided with each other, split each other's heads open. Btw the two of them they had over 20 stitches ). I think I'm getting to be a pro at this LOL.
