I read somewhere that the mother/daughter in-law relationship is the most strained relationship in a family. I definitely believe that, and seeing as how there is a whole forum dedicated to it, I'm sure most would agree too. But why?
Is it because we didn't grow up in their family and didn't have a life time to become immune to their great annoyances? Are we the daughter in laws being too sensitive about another mother trying to come in and tell us how to live our lives and raise our children? Or are the mother in laws really oblivious to how rude they can be with their snide comments and unwelcome criticisms?
I know this does not apply to everyone but it seems like many many people are in the same situations with their in laws. It makes me sad because I will be a mother in law someday and I don't want my future daughter in law to hate me!

I feel the same way...Like they have to PICK everything (which is usually nothing) to hate us. But I think because we have gone through it we will hopefully never treat our daughter in laws like this.

My DH's aunt told me my MIL used to say all kinds of horrible things about me. Dh and i have been together for 11 yrs and even when we got married she acted odd around me. She feels like i stole her son. If it were not for me he would not speak to her at all. Now that we have kids she favors my 2yr old DS. Mils are nuts. My fils awesome.
