My TSH levels were at "8.something" according to my doctor ... two years ago was the last time I got checked because we have really bad miscarriage history ... and back then it was at "4.something" and the doctor said I was only borderline hypo.

Also, after you start taking synthroids ... how long does it take to feel like a normal human being again?

Not at all. I had a level in the 50's when I was diagnosed. I actually never felt good after taking Synthroid (T4 only med). A few years later, I switched to Armour (T3 and T4 med) and felt great since!

I haven't posted in awhile, but I wanted to chime in here....In Sept I had a (TIA) mini stroke due to my levels being WAYYYYY off....it was 157!!!! My doctor has since put me BACK on 300 mcg of Synthroid. I am wondering if there is something else that I can take to make sure mine don't get that high again.

When my levels are under control I feel totally normal...not so tired and run down.

You should be checking your level every 6-12mos. Where you not taking anything???

Yes I was. I was taking 175 mcg of Synthroid and my last blood work was done in July at my 6 week post op appt (I had surgery to put in a vocom implant on vocal cords due to my voice not being 100% after my thyroidectomy last July), so I was in between blood work....I wasn't due til Jan. Apparently I wasn't on the correct dose, so while in the hospital my doctor upped my dose. I don't see an endo, but I'm honestly wondering if I should. I've only seen the endo doctor once and that was when I had the testing that found the goiter...last year.

Your huge increase may have been a result of the post-partum period. Make sure they check you every 6 weeks for the next few months incase it comes back more normal after the post-partum period is over. I always go hyper for the first 6-12 months after pregnancy.

I was at 100 when diagnosed. I took synthroid for years and felt like garbage. Now I take Armour and feel better, but I think I need to get checked soon because I still have some symptoms.
