Hi I'm new here

I have a few questions...

Okay, my name is Sarah, I'm 29yrs old and mommy to Samuel (3 in Nov). My mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in '98 and they had to remove most of her gland. She's been in remission for 7yrs and all... But anyway, here's my main worry. I know its hereditary to have thyroid issues. I havent had blood tests done in probably around 3yrs. I'm scared they will find something... And lately I've been feeling weird. I had an m/c in Feb that took over 2months to get over with. And then my cycles have been all over the place since then. Bleeding/spotting most of the days, low temps, my hair falls out in clumps when I brush it, I'm tired ALL THE TIME, I feel like crap emotionally (was diagnosed with depression back in HS), I cannot stand the cold (I used to think it was just a blood circulation issue), I have dry skin and high cholesterol issues... I know these are ALL symptoms of Hypo, but I'm scared. Now I'm wondering if all my m/c's have been happening because of my thyroid. Not knowing makes me anxious, but then again, I need to have answers to my infertility. I have an appt tomorrow at the clinic (My OB is on illness leave til Jan '12 so I cant see her) and I wanted to know what I need to ask them. Blood tests? U/S? Etc... What do you recommend? I know I have to get a full thyroid check, and not just basic TSH, but apart from that, anything else you think I should ask for?

Oh wow hun, I'm sorry that you're going through all of this. First things first, you definitely need to go to that appointment to see a Dr. and get blood work done. Until you get your results its hard to tell what you will need after that.

I know that it's scary, especially with the history you mum had but it could be resolved with something as simple as getting on medication!

KUP on your appointment and I hope you get your answers hun! I know how rough things have been and this will be the first step to a smoother path.

I talked to my mom just now... they're on vacation in SC and she said she'd come with me if they send me for blood tests. Aww! She knows how it is and she wants to be there for me

Welcome to the board!!!!! I highly recommend a full thyroid panel- TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3 and TPO (anti-thyroid antibody). Keep us posted on your results!!
