Hello! I'm Stephanie!

I have a question. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2008, and then they told me I have Hashimoto's in 2010. My thyroid is "grossly enlarged"

Can anyone else feel their thyroid? Like I constantly feel like I have a lump in my throat, hard to swallow...If you gently push on my neck I can not breath.

Also I am on 125mcg synthyroid and I feel exactly the same when I am on it as to when I am off it. Is there other meds?

Hi Stephanie! I have the same disease that you do - Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism. I also had an enlarged thyroid, which they call a goiter. I believe the reason that you are having trouble swallowing is because your thyroid is enlarged. The right dosage of medication should help to shrink it. Mine did not get so large that I could feel it, but I have heard of that happening. I'm so sorry to hear that you are not feeling any better on your meds. Have you looked into taking Armour? That is what I take, although I had previously been on Synthroid. I felt horrible on Synthroid, and I learned about Armour from this board. I started reading a whole bunch of stuff online from Mary Shomon, a thyroid patient advocate. If you google her, you will be able to find her articles. She also has a FB page that anyone can join, and she shares a TON of helpful stuff there, too. I LOVE Armour, and have been on it for a couple years now. I start having symptoms again if my medication is too low. I hope you are able to find something that will work for you, and I want to encourage you not to give up! Keep fighting for treatment that will work for you!
