Hi everyone. I hope I can get some answers and experiences from you ladies. My DSD has Hashimoto's disease and is being recommend for goiter surgery. This is all new to us. My DD has Graves, but we were fortunate enough that her goiter has been fine and she even no longer needs to be medicated for it. As of now, DSD is on synthroid but the doctor doesn't want to up the dosage cause it would mess with her body more than it already has. As it is, the poor girl bleeds almost constantly, deals with chronic constipation, has skin issues, sensitivity to cold water, packs on the weight easier than most teens, and is now starting to show signs of depression. Please give me your experiences with this surgery. Will it help with all those issues or just reduce the size of the goiter?

Thanks in advance.

I'm only preparing to start treating my thryoid disorder as what it really is.. but from what I've found/been told... TSH is not the proper treatment for Hashimotos. Have you guys tried her on desiccated thyroid?

This site (and it's a book too) seems to have a lot of good information. I'm going to be looking for an endo when we get back to Wi to try and get the proper treatment, no matter what it costs us.
