i'm so glad i just ran across this board. I am 10 wks and we still havent told our kids who are 12 (son) and twin girls who just turned 8. I am 35 and this pg was completely a surprise, i was on the pill and quite frankly didn't want anymore kids. We have joked with our kids for years about a baby and while my son and one of the girls has acted surprised, the other seems to get upset about the thought....WELL NOW ITS REALLY HAPPENING?

We assumed at first we would sit them down together but NOW i am wondering if we should do it 1 on 1 with each and then bring them together to answer any further questions. I am really concerned how my 1 daughter will feel about this and i just want to do what is best for her. They are great kids but the girls are VERY attached to us, and very much even at 8 "our babies"

Any advice on what you think is best or what others have done?
How have you dealt with a child that wasn't thrilled about the news?

Thank you

Congrats are in order, I hope you have a happy healthy pregnancy!
Maybe 1 on 1 is a good idea, our son was 13 when we got pregnant and his reaction was very subduded....it was hard for him to imagine a baby! I would sugest telling thenm in a cheerful manner and dont dwell on it at first, let them see that life hasnt changed right away (I hope you are not very ill with the pregnancy!) We took Travis to an ultrasound, and did family tie dyes shirts when I hit the 3rd trimester. We helped Travis make a baby shirt and talked about how we would all wear our stuff for a family photo when the baby was born, he really liked that.
Now at 2 and 16 they are best buddies and Travis is an amazing help. He says he cant imagine our life without Ben. I hope it goes well for you!
