Justin has his first school program tonight. He is very excited and of course nervous. I was wondering if anyone gives their child something special after a school program. I remember growing up that some parents gave their little girls flowers. That will not work for me!!! My DH says that I am just looking for a reason to buy him something. My parents are coming too. I had thought about having them over afterward for cake and ice cream, but it is a school night and if Justin is not in bed by his bedtime, it is H-E-double hockey sticks in the morning!!

Just wanted to get your opinions.

We never got anything special for programs growing up. When we got all A's on a report card we usually got something (money, music, etc.). I think books are a wonderful way to reward kids. Take him to a bookstore (even a used bookstore) and let him pick out whatever sparks his interest. It's a reward and a learning tool at the same time.

Depending on what time the programs started we would either go to dinner prior or ice cream afterwards. I think it's just a kind of "special" thing for a family to do together.
