I would paint the furniture all one color too --- whichever color - black or white - that goes best with your bedding/nursery colors.
I don't have a recommendation for any specific paint but I'm sure most lead free paints would work. And, like Chelsea suggested, you could just ask someone at Sherman Williams. I wouldn't trust just any guy at a paint counter though (like Wal-mart). Employees at a professional paint store will be more knowledgeable.
I've also seen where you can paint a chester drawers all white but paint the drawers colors to match the nursery (using one color or multiple colors). Here's one example...

I've seen a nightstand with three little drawers. It was painted all white except the top and bottom drawer were painted blue with white knobs and the middle drawer was white with blue knobs. It was SO CUTE!
