Does anyone else live in a rental? It makes decorating a bit harder when you don't get to paint... The room in our house we're using for the baby room (currently an office) has neutral berber carpet and tan walls so pretty much anything will go. But then I see all these pink, blue, purple, yellow rooms and I get jealous!

Awww! As much fun as it is to paint rooms colors, white/tan walls can be pretty too!
We lived in an apartment when my oldest son was born so we couldn't paint either, the walls were white. The carpet was neutral.
I just picked out his bedding and valance and got a matching self stick wall border that we could peel off when we moved. It was easy and didn't harm the walls.
I remember I also bought a little white bookcase and dh cut out two of the designs from the border and put
them on either side of the bookcase, it was so cute.
We also had a blue glider rocker and a pretty lamp on his dresser. It wasn't completely all done up to exactly match but it still looked beautiful.

I am sure whatever you pick will look great! There are lots of bedding sets with neutral colors so you could either go that way or pick something with color and then accessorize with a colored lamp shade or drawer knobs...lots of thing to do!
Good luck and show us what you decide!

We were in a rental, well military housing, whenmy daughter was a baby, and not allowed to paint. We had taupe carpet and off-white walls. I bought Wallies fairies and stuck them up with little adhesive dotsso they came down easy when we moved. We got old furniture and painted it lavender with bright knobs, we also painted her bookcase lavender and one of those wood shelveswitht he plastic bins, the bins were pastelsand the shelf white but we painted it lavender. Put up colorful greeting cards with fairies, in bright mats and painted frames, and hung butterfly printed fabric that went with her bedding as window curtains. Multicolored pastel glow-in-the dark butterflies we stuck to the ceiling with sticky-tac added color there. It ended up very bright and colorful and all came with us when we moved.
You could make a "wallpaper" border out of fabric and wide ribbon, tacked up instead of glued, you could even cover an entire wall in fabric panels and crisscross the fabric with ribbon and pushpins, like a note-board, to get the effect of wallpaper.
Good luck!

You'll just have to be more creative with your decorations. I would had a colorful rug on the floor, colorful curtains, and interesting things to the wall. Can you paint the furniture a color or add interesting knobs to the drawers? I would really focus on finding some interesting accessories to take the focus away from the tan walls.

I am in a rental also. We are doing classic pooh and I found these wall clings to put on the walls. I also painted shelves bright colors, letters spelling out his name and blocks spelling out his name...trying to incorporate some color. I'm sure it will still come out looking great! Just have to do the best you can with what you have.

we are in a rental but we worked it out when we moved in that they didnt' have to paint (they primared) and we'd paint and then when we left they would paint over our color. You can ask if you can paint, if you primer (sp?) when you leave... most places/people wont mind. We did that at our other two rentals. The manager of our bldg. loves our color in the living room so much he said he might leave it and just touch up holes, etc-- when we move. LOL

We are in the same situation. We are currently in a rental and unsure of how to deocorate. I wont go to crazy as we might be kicked out since it's an adult only building.

Put your personal touches where you can and work with the colors of the walls and floor.

We have off white-creamish walls with white trims and off white - creamish carpet. Since we don't know the gender of our little one I will be using a light chocolate brown, minty soft green, and a creamish color. This way it works with the surroundings but also works with different gender Just some thoughts

DH and I are going to try and buy when we move this month (when we have a baby we can do what we want) but we were in an apartment with the berber carpet and the neutral walls and I LOVED it. I wouldn't want to paint over that.

I know what you mean but I love the neutrals.

Check the laws in your state. In my province (Alberta) you are not allowed to kick a tenant out if they have children after the fact. EVEN in an adult only building. That, like so many other tenant laws, is not known by so many people here.
