Once I know what this little ones name is I want to either order or hand paint my own. Anyone have experience with painting their own?

I painted some for Ally. It was really cheap and easy so I recommend doing it that way. I bought the letters and paint from a craft store.

These are the letters I painted for the nursery...the blocks are going on shelves that I painted to match. I like hand painted ones, simply because they are one of a kind...you can put your personal touch on them, and you don't have to be an amazing artist to do them.

If you had any desire to buy the white Pottery Barn letters (and paint them, or whatever), STEER CLEAR!
We purchased them and had the most horrible time hanging them. I do not know who designed them, but the holes are not located in the proper place to create a balanced weight when you hang them. Therefore, it is IMPOSSIBLE for them not be tilted (unless you want to spend hours on trial and error). We finally gave up and allowed a little tilt (but I am anal and it still bothers me a little every time I look at them).
Good luck.

I got the blocks from AC Moore. I think I've also seen them at other craft stores, but smaller.

I bought ours and covered them in glitter glue so they would sparkle! LOL Don't think your little man would want that though.
Honestly, if you want to paint them a solid color or minor details or whatever, just get from Michaels or Walmart, Kmart--somewhere like that.
If you want them elaborately done- get them on ebay. There is a lady who I'm going to have do Layla's and they are really reasonable for the amount of detail she includes. Prices are from $8 / letter for 6 in. to $14 / letter for 12 in. I'm going to get the 8 in. and they are $10.
Here's her link: Little Everythings

1sttimemommytobe maybe you could attach with ribbon like in the samples shown in the link by berrygirl. Maybe that would straighten them.

I bought the letter's at Walmart and did Emma's by myself. I am thinking, I should have had them custom made. Not quite what I wanted.

the thursday before I had Zahra, I made her letters.
I used the salt/flour/water dough recipe and baked off shapes of sunflowers and butterflies. Then I painted them and hot glued on foam letters. I alternated every other one to spell her middle name "Sandra" which wasa the only thing I knew for sure about her name.hehe I post a pic, but I don't have any. It was fun. My mom and I did it together, mean while I was having contractions.

I am pretty creative and can actually draw when I take time to do it. I think I am going to try it out. Carissa my daughter would be the only one that I would draw on, like a butterfly and flowers or something. I am going to try getting the letters this weekend for Christopher my son and play and will take pics and show you girls...

I did my own. I got the letters at the craft store. I had a great vision of what I wanted and it didn't exactly turn out that way....but not too bad either, I suppose. It was cheaper than buying them already done.

I know the designer that does the letters for PoshTots. I plan on hiring her to do something to match the nursery. I'm waiting until I have the bedding made, and send her pics as well as fabric samples. She does an INCREDIBLE job.

I'm planning on painting my own. I bought wooden letters from walmart yesterday. I haven't decided if I'm going to hang them with ribbon or have SO put something on the back of each letter. I want something unique and if I make them myself, they're much more likely to be what I want and match the rest of the room!
