I have been looking at crib bedding options, and I was wondering what is the purpose of a quilt, other than decoration? You're not supposed to use them on the baby for fear of suffocation, right? If that is the case, do I need to even have one? I am thinking about just skipping one....
You are right, the quilt is decoration only, unless you plan on using your bedding for a toddler bed as well, but you may go directly to a twin so the crib bedding wouldn't fit that anyways (obviously )

I think it is personal choice. Some use them as decoration, we put Brinlee's on a quilt rack. My sister used hers by tucking it in over the matress.... my niece slept on it, but didn't cover up with it. I wouldn't say that the quilt is 100% for decoration ONLY... I think it is just a personal choice.
