is driving me insane. MIL bought DD a lamb that sings jesus loves me and she is obsessed with it. It is driving me nuts. I am okay with DD owning something like that but sadly she doesn't understand the words or why the song is sung. I've tried teaching her all the meaning behind it but MIL has it in her head that it's just a song and mommy is making things complicated. I have no issue at all with discussing religion, jesus, god or anything else with my DD and we have and we do. However, the song is driving me nuts. I cannot lie it's like really? You know someone loves you because a book tells you? Wow, talk about brain washing. Thanks for letting me vent and I hope you all have a wonderful and enjoyable holiday or no holiday for that matter.

Kaley got this...
The Timmy: Preloaded with 100 Favorite Sunday School Songs MP3 MP4 Player: Christianbook.com
I feel your pain.
Tomorrow I will be working on hopefully removing the songs and replacing them with secular music. I don't mind one or two religious EDUCATIONAL songs, but seriously. This is sad.

Why is it that people feel the need to push their beliefs onto other people so badly? I mean, I get that its a gift for a family member, but sometimes, it can cross the line.

Oh yeah I feel as though the line is crossed each time I see my MIL. She also gave the kids a book on the true meaning of christmas called a christmas story all about the birth and such of jesus.

I so wish I could get rid of these two things but of course I cannot. Oh well, guess I'll have to have to learn how to be bigger and not let the pushiness bother me---but how?!

Our family knows what is acceptable or not. We not only have issues with religious items, but with gender specific as well. We have told them many, many times that if the gift is not appropriate for our child, we will give to charity and we follow through on that. But luckily, they have been awesome about meeting our specified parameters.

Get her this book at the next available gifting opportunity. If she's going to be pushy about her Christian beliefs, push back with logic.

The first gift that we get for our children that crosses the line will be met with the same attitude. If they feel our children need those types of items, I have no problem purchasing my belief's items online and giving those as gifts.

Hi, I'm just a lurker normally, but HAD to comment on this! I think I will search for this book for my hubby! He will enjoy it! Should send a copy to my extremely fundamentalist Christian parents.

maybe the lamb could mysterious get lost one night. or at least run out of batteries.

And Melissa, you should put XTC's "Dear God" on your new playlist

I was thinking it could "accidentally" make its way into the washing machine. You could even replace it with a different lamb. I've seen some on Amazon that play Brahm's Lullaby. I don't loathe all religious songs, but "Jesus Loves Me" is just awful. It's not one I can tolerate at all.

Unfortunately I discovered you can't remove OR add music to it. So it's hidden and so far Kaley has forgotten about it. She has a Fisher Price tough kid music player thing and mostly uses that. Thank god!

That reminds me, when Connor was born, one of DH's family members gave us a book called something like "Because God Loves Me" and it's all about how our parents take care of us and love us because God makes them, or something. I was like, "Uh, no, I take care of him and love him because I grew him inside my belly for nine months and he's my offspring, DUH." That book wasn't in my house ten minutes before I threw it straight into the trash. I'd have burned it if I had a fireplace.
