This will be our first Easter as Agnostics...I'm curious as to how you celebrate it?
I told DH I still wanted to get the boys their Easter baskets with candy and small toys..maybe to a plastic Easter Egg hunt in the backyard. We'd never done the hunt previously.

We decorate eggs and do a small basket. We go have a family lunch or dinner too. Nothing religious, obviously. Ours is more about spring!

Hi! I'm a lurker on the board. My DD is four and this will be the first time she's experienced Easter. I never allowed it previously because the whole holiday is so religious to me in its origins. However, I do have fond memories of celebrating it when I was a child. And really it's not much different than Christmas which we do celebrate-- never had a tree, just presents. If you don't consider something religious, then it's not. Right?
DD doesn't know anything about it yet. I plan on surprising her with a basket hidden in the house (what my mom always did) and plastic eggs filled with candy hidden as well. I think she'll love it.

We never celebrated Easter religiously as a child (parents are athiest/agnostic). We did get easter bunnies, candy, etc and possibly a nice dinner but nothing major. We never did easter egg hunts really. My husband's mom used to hide eggs and packs of hockey cards when he was growing up. He's also taught me their yearly tradition of bunny cakes (pretty much taking a round cake, cutting it in half and putting the halves together with icing so it stands like a half-circle...then it's like a standing bunny and you can put paper ears on it and decorate it).
So we now do bunny cakes every year. We also have an easter basket that usually has a book, small stuffed animal and a small treat for the kids. We just have a nice dinner but it's really about having family over and celebrating spring. I think of it as celebrating spring anyway.

We do Easter baskets and an egg hunt. Obviously no church. Bunnies, eggs, etc are all about the fertility of spring, not the resurrection of christ, and they are fun. I am not sure if Blaise will really understand any of it this year, he will at least get the egg hunt I hope. The story of the easter bunny probably won't mean much yet. He knew who Santa was when he saw him this year, but the whole concept of "Santa will come and bring presents" went over his head, and I figure the same will happen with the easter bunny this year.
This will be the first year I am gonna try decorating eggs with him, that should be really fun, though likely pretty messy.

Since having kids, it has always been the same thing. We celebrate commercial Easter. They go on an egg hunt, we dye eggs, and they get a basket with candy and easter-themed items (not religious Easter stuff). We go eat with family and just celebrate spring coming.
In a few years, they won't believe anymore in the bunny or the red suit man, so we enjoy it with them while we can.

We usually just do a basket for the kids. Just five minutes ago though, my SIL (the priest) called and wants us to come visit for Easter weekend (which we were thinking about doing because that means we get to b beach bums) BUT... She wants to baptize Daniel at their Easter service. EUGGHHH! DH had mentioned taking Connor to the Easter service because he enjoys watching his sister "in her element" as he puts it, and I had planned having a beach day with Daniel since he wouldn't sit quietly through a service, but now it's looking like I'll have to spend Easter in church??? This forum won't let me post the words I want to scream at that thought!
I'm NOT a happy camper right now....

Yeah... it IS BS. I don't really care if they want to baptize Daniel, it's not like it's going to hurt him or anything, ya know? But the fact that *I* will have to sit in church instead of on a beach as a result of it just pisses me the hell off!

Might just do a few eggs this year, but not much. I dont want my three year old to have too much chocolate right now anyways.
And this is starting to fill up my newsfeed in FB
A Facebook challenge...During this couple of weeks before Easter, I am out to prove that my friends will repost, I hope I am right!!! Easter is not about bunnies and chocolate eggs. Let's lift up God's name and make a statement!! When Jesus died on the cross he was thinking of You and Me. If you are not ashamed to call Jesus Christ your savior, copy and repost. I'm not ashamed..."
Im just like, ugh when is easter over? lol
