I originally wrote this for the Christmas thread but decided it was too much off topic.

I don't really like to label myself atheist or agnostic. I see religion from the scientific perspective--there is no proof that any of the world's gods exist/ed, and many of the things they are said to have done/can do go totally against the laws of nature. If you can show me scientific evidence, I would believe in it. That somewhat makes me agnostic. But I also think there will never be any evidence, because none of it could be true. That's more of an atheist approach.

Except for on small scales like this board, I don't have a personal need to get together with other atheists or participate in the atheist movement. I feel like the most important part of this is that we think for ourselves. We don't let other people tell us what is right, what is wrong, how to live our lives. If you get a group of atheists together, most likely they only thing they will agree on is that there is no God. There is no need for them to agree on anything else so it could get pretty contentious! And since society likes to put everything in neat little categories, there would have to be a stereotypical atheist. I wouldn't want someone to think they know EVERYTHING about me based on one part of my life: I don't believe in god. That doesn't mean I think like everyone else who doesn't believe in god.

A friend from another message board has this signature: "Militant agnostic. I don't know, and you don't either." I love that!

So how do you perceive yourself?

About the same as you. I lean mostly towards a whole lot of "I don't really care what you believe or don't believe, I just know what's right for ME" ya know?

Definitely atheist. And I'm an angry, organized religion-hating one at that, lol. I'll just leave it there before I start going off on some rant that no one wants to hear anyway.

I am def atheist. I am not angry, but I hate organized religion and when people use it in an argument, I start getting defensive. I love to argue with people, should have been a lawyer!!! LOL
