I'm actually a Unitarian Universalist, but since Unitarianism is basically organized agnoticism, I was hoping you all wouldn't mind me being here too badly. I do believe in God, but don't believe that he is petty and small enough to require silly initiation rituals of his believers (I use the masculine pronouns for ease of reference, not because I believe that God has a literal gender).

Name: Amy Christian (that's a nom de plume)
Age: 29
Kids: None yet We hope to have three
Where: Annapolis, MD
Interests: Academia, research, teaching; traveling, reading, cooking.

Neither DH nor I have any sort of religious affiliation and we are definitely atheists (not agnostics). We read a lot of Dawkins and Hitchens. Because I work in academia, it's slightly more "acceptable" to be an atheist, but DH has a harder time with it at his firm. It definitely singles him out.

One time he was asked to sign a get-well card that read, "You are in our prayers." He said he did sign it, but made sure the person asking for his signature on the card was aware that he was, in fact, not going to pray

Most of our friends are atheists or agnostics, but our families are scary hybrids of various Christian sects. It hasn't really affected our relationship with them that much, which is good.

I've been on JM for almost a year now and I didn't know about this group until now! Good to meet you, ladies!

"The God Delusion" may have changed me from an Atheist to Agnostic... But it's close.

I consider myself agnostic right now, so does DH. I grew up Catholic, DH started Catholic, then his mom converted them to Congregational.

My mother likes to tell me things like 'oh, I still have your Christening gown for your baby' and then act all shocked when I remind her that we're not going to Christen our children. DH's mom desperately wants us to belong to a church and has even gone so far as to have a local Unitarian Church contact us (mind you... she lives 300 miles away).

Hi all! I never saw this forum til today...good stuff! I'm Jenn...my boyfriend Adam and I are both atheists (although he's more vocal about it than I am.) I come from fairly religious families...and I try to keep my opinion to myself around them out of respect (although they rarely afford me the same courtesy but whatever! LOL!)
