Good morning!

I was just thinking about the woman who appeared on 30 Days whose 'church' was a coffee shop and the 'congregation' were her atheist friends. I'd love to get a group like that togther in my area, although I could only commit to monthly meetings at this point.

Anyone else have or ever start a local group?

Funny you should ask. Just this past Saturday, I met several people from the sec web in my area at Panera's. It was pretty fun.

There is a "Freethought Society" here, but I had never been to a meeting although I am on their mailing list. A couple of the people I met Saturday said that they had been to a meeting and it was all elderly people like in their 70's & 80's so we discussed either making our own meetings or infiltrating this Freethought Society at the same time to lower the average age. lol

I grew up in the south, the Bible Belt, right? Ha ha, not compared to this town! I swear, I have never seen so many churches or religous bumper stickers in my life as I see in this town. Everything happens at church. La leche league meets at church (I don't attend, but not for that reason). I took my DONA training at a church. I pick up my weekly vegetables from another church. We even voted in the last election at a church! I guess the point I'm getting to is, Dh and I seem to be the only atheists in this entire city.

I wouldn't mind meeting with a group of likeminded people--if I could even find them--but right now I am stretched too thin as it is. So even though it sounds like fun, having a real life atheist group just isn't for me.
