Ethics.. You know those two links you posted in the Fluffy debates? The one about confessions? (The second the ethics test?) Both just have me thinking... I can't believe how many people think it's religion that is dependant on whether or not a person has ethics! That confessions thread just completely contradicted people who think that.. Over and over again I read a person was disgraced by their God, not their own conscience.. I wonder do people really understand that voice isn't actually a God but themselves? In a completely different thread I remember reading a devote Christian describe their inner voice as the voice of God.. believing that their whole life..

smt, do you also understand what I'm referring too? About humans with this devotion to something so completely themselves yet branded as God? It just makes me sad because I feel like that really could lead people to depend less on themselves.

I know, it’s soooo weird!

And how do you talk them out of it? And when you try to explain that everyone has a conscience they think it is god. They think someone is whispering in their ear. And if the voice tells them to do bad things, well then that is the devil!

That thread really was messed up and sad.

IMHO, it all seems like a way to avoid taking responsibility for one's actions. Mark Foley's got his alcoholism, Christians have their devil.

It is sad to note that some xians' only reason for being decent human beings stems from their fear of punishment from their god. And they feel WE have no morals. Pssshaw!

sorry to have hijacked your thread...lol

Hey that's okay! I will never understand that either. I met a woman who thinks that the only reason atheists live right is because god is talking to them too! Well the holy Spirit is anyway.

I think the wedding I went to just illustrated this craziness some people believe.. The groom is one of those guys who just waited.. out of respect to his future wife.. He is an atheist. I wish more people could see it's not religion but I guess they were raised that way, eh?
