I've been thinking about this. It seems, at least to me, that threads about "what's for supper" and "let's play a game"...i.e. fillers or conversation starters don't really match the clientele of the board (so-to-speak) it's hard to keep topics fresh on such a place.

I hate to say it, but many times, the hotter topics are usually some discussion about religion. Politics too. Keeping the topics focused on atheism & agnostic thought is harder to do because it is usually all relative to religion or politics...heh! What are some ideas you might have?

I'm going to surf around other a/a sites on the secular web to find some talking points.

Yeah, same thoughts here. Sort of hard to keep new converstaions going all the time. Plus I don't actually get on JM during the weekends at all, only when I'm uh... at work

That is what I was thinking as well.

It's a shame. I'd really like to post here.

Most people on other boards assume I'm Christian and it would be nice to have a break from it ... I don't get all upset but it is nice to have some understanding. Especially since I'm not a mom yet I would love to know what to do in terms of dealing with my in-laws when I do get pregnant, about baptism and all that jazz, and people telling me I shouldn't even be allowed to have kids. Nobody else really understands all that.

Well, whenever someone DOES post something, it usually generates some decent conversation for a while It's just difficult sometimes to come up with good topics to start - lol.

Hehe...as it turns out, in my local newspaper yesterday someone sent in a letter to the editor about being flooded with Xianity all the time during the holiday season. I'll post it after I feed the baby!

I don't know if we are agnostics or atheists.... I don't know the difference!

I asked the question a couple of weeks ago. Agnostic means you think there could be a higher power, but you're not sure, the door is open... Atheist is you don't believe it and never will, there's no chance there's a higher power.

I see... so I must be agnostic...

I believe in a spiritual power, but it's not a god or something... no conscience...

I feel like since religiosity and Christianity in particular are taken to be the norm (not just on JM but everywhere), a lot of what atheists and agnostics tend to talk about when we DO have a forum, is how to avoid and/or debate religious beliefs being imposed on us.

Personally I don't tire of shooting holes in religious "theories" and I love to debate, but I don't think any of us think about our beliefs SO often that we're going to post 10 times a day in this one board.

How to raise kids neutrally or non-believing in a culture of believers is a pretty big issue, though. I think that the lack of quantity of posts here is more than made up for in quality of the topics. I have already learned a lot, and I also feel this board is a great support for those of us who feel like we're often silenced or shamed by the religiosity of our culture, families, etc.
