Something happened to me this cycle that never happened before in my life, and I just had to let you know about it! Last cycle was extremely long and anovulatory, cause me a lot of stress, ugly broken out skin, and random bleedings in between. UGH! I did a bit of reading on Vitex (or chasteberry), how it naturally regulates your periods over time and makes the bleeding easier and lighter, without any harmful hormones and such. Since my AF is always super painful and overly bloody, with clothes/sheets that always end up stained one way or anoher, I decided to give Vitex a try. I didn't expect it to start working quite yet, as I read that it takes a few months to kick in. I used it for the past 2 weeks.
So AF showed her face 5 days ago - for real now, because I felt some cramping this time and the usual AF symptoms. But... the cramps were so much milder, and I didn't have a single "heavy" day yet! Even the two "normal flow" days didn't last the entire day - only in the afternoon I had (TMI) passed a few bloody clots, but nothing amounting to the crazy heavy ones I used to get all my life! Could it be it? Vitex? I haven't taken it for too long, but it's certainly an interesting coincidence.
I think I'm definitely going to continue taking it and see how my next cycle turns out. Just wanted those of you with really heavy/painful periods to know that this might help you out. Google it if you're interested, hopefully this will help someone!
Try searching yams, twins, vitex. I think that's how I found it, it may take some digging though.
You'll want to avoid wild yam if you're trying to get pregnant... it's fine for the first half of your cycle but once you ovulate, it can actually prevent pregnancy... it's used as an herbal contraceptive.
And allow me to stress the importance of speaking with a certified herbalist before undertaking any serious herbal treatments. People seem to equate "herbal" with "safe" which is SO not the case. Herbal treatments should be treated just like modern medicine... you wouldn't go popping strange pills in your mouth without talking to a doctor, you shouldn't do that with herbs without talking to an herbalist. (Sorry for the soapbox but herbs are a very serious subject for me.)
Interesting. The articles I've read mention you cannot expect an immediate effect but I guess we're all different some some people are more sensitive to the effect than others. Great news that it's working well for you
Something weird happened last night... It was CD5 and my period was very low, so I thought it would be tapering off... Well... TMI!!!!! All of a sudden I felt like I'm passing a huge clot, so I ran to the bathroom and sure enough a few large ones escaped with a lot of blood. Kinda like during my normal heavy days.... Hmmm... So I decided to wear a tampon to bed just to be sure I don't wake up in a puddle, and this morning it was so difficult to take out! Turns out there was almost nothing on it. Weird stuff, ladies! I tell you, if it's Vitex, it sure works strange on my body... Or, of course it could be that my body is just all wacky after my last cycle, which I mentioned before was long and anovulatory and involved lots of random bleeding in the middle (it's in my chart). Who knows..
