I have very irregular cycles, mostly due to PCOS, but partly because I've recently (november '09) quit breastfeeding. By irregular I mean cycles anywhere from 3 to 7 weeks long. This wouldn't be a huge deal if DH had a regular job and were home every day. He works on a boat and is gone 4 weeks at the time and only home for 2, then gone 4 again, so on, so on. It seems to never fail us, I'm always on AF at some point when he's home. Oh, and there's no way he could take any days off during those 4 weeks, he lives on a boat during that time, and he works out of New Orleans, about 5 hours from where we live.
Anyway...I was on the pill for 6 years for irregular cycles and pcos. I stopped taking it Nov '08 and my cycles were like clockwork...we got pregnant our first chance he was home when I O'd, Feb '09. I have not been on any birth control since our son was born Nov '09, I did BF for 12 months although got AF back Jan '10, and it's been irregular as said above.
My question...has anyone gone on the pill for a month or so just to regulate and/or 'time' your cycle? I know in the past, if I had some important event come up, sometimes I would delay AF by starting a new pack instead of taking the inactive pills. Would it be possible to tweak timing so when I came off, there's a chance I'd O when DH is home?
Sorry this got so long. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.
