hi girls,
I joined today cos feelin rubbishy and need to vent and advice.
My partner and I have been not tryin not preventin our whole four plus yr relationship. The last twelve months weve been actively trying. I bought a cbmonitor, fertility tests and we both got fully checked out at the doctor with no problems showing up. Prob is im still not pregnant. Every month like clock work i come on around day 29 after ovulating 15 days before. This month ( got period yesterday) I have started using Soya Isoflavones. 100mg day one to five.
Im hoping this will help. I know im ovulating already but im really panicking cos i am now thirty eight.
I have three children with my ex. i also had one miscarriage with him too. that was before my second child was born.
Please help and advise me. Im beginning to think it will never happen.

Have you seen a specialist? I had the same problem. I was like clockwork, but it turned out even though I was ovulating my eggs were not mature enough. I'm 36. Did you have an xray of your tubes to see if they were open? Has your doctor tried any fertility drugs? Sometimes your regular GYN may not have the answers you need and you have to seek out a Reproductive Endocronologist (RE) as I did. Even if you had children before it's possible things start happening later. Did your partner have a semen analysis done? Post coital exams? I've heard cm could be extremely hostile and can kill the sperm and that could also be an issue.

The girls here may all have some really good ideas and some advice. I am glad I joined even though my stay on the TTC board was short. This is an awesome group!

GL and lots of babydust.

Do you have any idea what tests were run with your BW? Did they just do a general u/s of your uterus and ovaries, or did they do any follicle measuring and follow-up u/s to make sure you O'd along with a post-O progesterone draw to confirm O? Have you had a HSG? It's a little different that the general u/s and makes sure your tubes are not blocked, etc.

I'd say if you're not seeing an OBGYN, only a GP (especially if he hasn't performed the more specific tests), then yes, the first step is to see on OBGYN. They are more specialized in fertility and issues related to conceiving than a GP or family dr. The OBGYN would possibly do some more in-depth tests and refer you to a specialist or RE if needed. The fact that you're over 35 and have been TTC for longer than 6 months warrents much further investigation, and an OBGYN would be the first stop in getting some answers. Or, if your current dr is willing, he could potentially refer you directly to a RE. Please continue to KUP!

ETA: I wanted to clarify something I said...just because you're over 35 and haven't conceived DOES NOT automatically mean there is an issue, however, the "standard" most drs go by is further testing if you're under 35 and have had no success after 12 cycles, and further testing if you're over 35 and not successful after 6 cycles. Either way, you're already at the year mark, so your dr should be taking your situation more seriously and not telling you to just give it more time, it'll happen...KWIM?
