So... I scheduled a vaginal/pelvic u/s for next Friday, the 10th (which will be CD 10 for me). I am debating on going or not. Part of me feels like it would be a waste of money b/c there may be nothing wrong with me at all as I am very regular, etc. But I have let fear creep in and tell me crazy things like, "you're not releasing an egg every month, only going through the motions, or you have multiple-cysts (PCOS), or your lining is thin and can't allow implantation..."
UGH. So I scheduled it. I may end up and cancel, who knows. My nurse said that although I’m very regular, that she would send off my paperwork saying that I am having irregular bleeding, so that insurance would pay for all of it (at least that’s what she said; I’ll have to call them and see).
One thing too is, yesterday I went to see my asthma specialist as I have been doing terrible these past 2 weeks, and he put me on prednisone for 7 days (40mg a day), and told me to do breathing machines twice a day for a week, along with inhalers & advair. Yeah… so I’m chronic asthmatic (don’t know if I ever mentioned that to you all) and for 18 years (age 5-23) I was on serious Prednisone (steroid). It was the only thing that would make me breathe when my breathing machine/inhalers failed. 18 years is a long time to be on and off this steroid, so when I turned 23 I started going to the Asthma Specialist I have now. At the time, he said that I was “by far his worst patient” (yeah, that killed me) and that he wanted me to try this new drug/injections. It was mainly a big allergy shot (which I had allergy shots too when I was growing up but stopped them at like age 18). But this new drug/shot cost $1500 every 4 wks, and my insurance, at the time, paid for it. While I was getting that injection I didn’t take one breathing machine, or steroid for that matter. So I had roughly 1.5 years on this shot and it pretty much cured me, no lie. At least it, and all the prayers did. That’s what I believe.
Anyways, since then – since age 25 (my last injection) I still have not done a breathing machine, or been hospitalized. WHAT AMAZINGNESS! Totally changed my life!! However… since age 23, when I first got on the injection, my specialist recommended me to go to a Bone doctor, and get a bone scan as he feared my bones had deteriorated over the 18 years while on that steroid, pred. So I went, and sure enough I was told I had Osteopenia in both hips and the lumbar part of my spine. So since then, I have had to take tons of calcium for bone correction as well, and it has reversed my bones a lot. I mean I am not considered “high normal bone density” for my age of 29, but I am out of the Osteopenia ranking, and into the lower part of normal range, which is amazing.
EH – sorry for telling my life’s story here… but I’m just scared. Part of me is scared to think what the Prednisone did to me, fertility wise, but then I think about how regular I am (28-29 days like clockwork) & how my charts/temps always look good every month. Seems like my body is doing everything "normal", except getting prego. I do not have irregular bleeding. I have a normal period length, etc. I just wanna know, you know? I wanna know if I’m messed up. My OB said she’s not concerned in the least due to the steroids all my life, and even my asthma specialist told me yesterday (he use to be a baby doctor) that the chances of it affecting me not to have a baby were really slim & that he’s never seen any cases where it has affected a woman to conceive. He also said the same thing about the strong injection I took for 1.5 years. He said the dreaded words, “Sometimes these things take time.”
So, this is where I am. Do I go to the pelvic u/s… especially since I am taking Prednisone for the next week due to my 1st asthma flare up in 6 years?? Or do I not go, b/c it’s not needed and I’m just too worried?
Just needed to share and get opinions.

I'd go. I think it'll be better for you in the long run if you can just rule it out rather than have it as a question.

I think that you should go just for the peace of mind. If you get back results that say nothing is wrong with you it will be a great burden lifted off of you. On the flip side if you do find out something is wrong it sure would be great to start working on correcting the problem so that you can get that BFP.

Go! Knowledge is power. You'll either be relieved that everything looks okay, or you will have new info that will help you get that BFP. It sounds like a win-win to me

My vote is go. I think it will help ease your mind and help you answer all the questions you want answered.
My DD just started up with Asthma and Allergies really bad this last year and I never realized how extensive all the meds. can be for that. She is on an inhaler, breathing treatments, eye drops, hydro cream and Cingulair. I am glad you mentioned calcium here b/c I never realized what all this could do to her bones. I will start upping her calcium intake. Thank you for that info!

Go!
I'd ask about it and just let them know what's going on, and ask if you need to change anything, but I wouldn't worry about it.

I would go. I went in last cycle for blood work and then AF can very soon after that appt so I scheduled the u/s. I'm pretty sure I did have some cysts last cycle, they popped and that's why I didn't O/had short cycle.
All of my stuff came back normal. It was a double edged sword though. I am extremely happy and thankful that nothing was abnormal, but then I just got the sense of "My body hates me." Which I would rather have the latter.
Anways, I wish I had more advice for you and I wish you would just move onto to a DDC already! You're long overdue!

I agree I think getting some answers may be best, even if the answer is that nothing is wrong. If nothing else it is one less thing for you to worry about. You are a positive person and I think once you know nothing is wrong, it will give you the strength to keep trying and you will get that BFP!

Michelle, I would go if I were you. There's no harm in being proactive. It can ease your mind to have it done and know that everything is ok, but on the flipside, if the small chance that something is out of sorts, it's better to catch it early and correct it. Plus, it's one first step of testing you can knock off the list and the dr can start looking at other tests if this TTC process starts to take a bit longer (and I hope it doesn't) I hope your mind is put at ease whatever you decide to do. Please KUP!

I'd do it, it sounds like a very noninvasive procedure and I think it's always best to try the least invasive methods. And it will give you peace of mind to know that all is well

Thanks girls!!! Question: Has anyone ever had this done, and if so, did your OB do it? My OB office is sending me to another place to have this done by a tech. The scheduler also told me today that the tech will do the procedure, while a radiologist is in another room reading the results. Then they will send the results over to my OB office, and then she'll call me & tell me what it reads. Is that normal?

I haven't had this procedure done, but that's how pregnancy U/S were for me, The tech did the U/S the radiologist read it and I found out the results at my next OB appointment, so I think that's pretty standard

I honestly think you are going to be told that you are just fine! You really have all signs that you are Oing!
Michelle, I'm just curious, is your DH on any vitamins? I don't know if you saw my post but I started my DH on the vitamins recommended by Katie and Jillian, GNC Performance & Vitality pack. I was never told that my DH had a sperm issue (we were going to be getting that checked if I didn't get pregnant this cycle) but I figured what the heck! It couldn't hurt! My DH started them about 1 week before I O'd this cycle. I'm not sure if it helped me get pregnant or not...but it's worth a shot! I honestly noticed a difference in him....just a couple days after taking it!
Best of luck at your appt Friday! I will be checking in on you!

OK - I was curious. I didn't know or not, b/c my sister said she got a u/s with her annual exam and her OB did hers.

Thanks hun. Acutally he is on a multivitamin, and this is his 3rd month. They are just generic Men's multi vitamins. I wonder if there's any different from the GNC kind??

Most OB offices have crappy outdated U/S machines lol that's why when you need a detailed U/S most of the time they'll refer you out

My DH was also on regular multivitamins for the whole time too until he just recently switched. The GNC vitamin has like 8 different vitamins in a pack to take daily. It seems like a lot, I know! But the crazy thing is that I did notice that he used to leak out of me almost right away after we BD but after he started taking it, it didn't leak out of me for the longest time! I could even walk around and it would stay there! weird.... It was seriously the craziest thing and I noticed it almost right away. it also has given him a lot of energy! AND .. (I'm just going to throw this out there) my DH isn't exactly the horniest man alive...but these vitamins helped in that dept too!
The vitamins include a multivitamin along with a prostate formula vitamin, L-Arginine, fish oil, Staminol. (The staminol and L-arginine promote sexual health)
Just a thought!

Michelle, I would go as well... I think at this point you are ready for some answers and the only thing that will ease your mind is starting somewhere and getting some tests done.
I would definitely switch DH to those GNC vitamins; that's what I'm going to do this weekend.
Side note cause it was so cute : DH and I are vegetarians and the GNC pack has fish oils in it and I asked DH if he would be willing to take them.. He said he will do whatever he needs to!
I wish I could help as far as the asthma meds go.. but I would trust the asthma specialist as far as it causing infertility goes...
I would go and I really think it would ease your mind; even if everything looks well.

Hi Michelle, I just wanted to share that my mom was on Prednisone when she had me. My mom and dad tried to conceive for 7 years (she has Lupus and endometriosis and was told she would never have children.) I was born one month early and it was the prednisone that actually helped to develop my lungs and I didn't have to go to the NICU. I hope your appointment goes well and that you will have peace of mind!
