Hey mamas

DP and I have been ttcing for 8 months, I have aprox a 52 day cycle but it really is all over the place, I have also been monitoring my CM / ovulation symptoms and I dont belive I ovulate every cycle. I went to the dr to ask to be tested for polycycstic ovarys as I had been ment to be tested for it but the first time I moved house / surgery, the second time I fell pregnant while waiting for the test. Also to see if theres anything that can shorten my cycle and to tell her I had researched agnus castus and would like to try that (its a herbal supliment) befor trying something prescribed like clomid or metformin.

my drs responce to this was that a 52 day cycle is normal

Polycyctic overys don't affect fertility so no point testing for it

There are no medications that shorten cycles.

Don't try herbal supplements as they destroy your liver.

and the ovulation info was tottaly ignored.

Then she reasured be I should conceive with in two years.

So total waste of time! If I don't concive this cycle I will try Agnus Castus / Vitex for a few months. If that doesn't work I will get a second oppinion!

Grr....... And Getting out of the house was SO hard today because of my panic attacks but I forced my self to go as I thought I would get some help with TTC!

I am sorry your doctor was so unsupportive. Can you change doctors? Maybe someone new would be more supportive and understanding.

If it were me, I'd change docs. No lie. You deserve a doc who will be considerate of you and really take the time to answer all of your questions, not brush off your inquiries like they're nothing. Seriously. Docs like that piss me off.

Hopefully you will get our BFP soon, since your doc was no help, but if it were me, I would seriously consider changing practices immediately! Lots of baby dust coming your way!

Wow I am so sorry you are dealing with a dr like that! I do have PCOS- it absolutely affects fertility! My PCOS is just an issue with the male androgen hormones, I do not have the insulin resistance factor (at this time) but my dr put me on Metformin. Here is the bright side, I was able to get pregnant in 3 cycles after starting Metformin, the first 2 months was the 500mg dosage (which turned out not to be enough) the month I got pregnant they had up'd my dosage to 1000mg...I O'd 4 days later and got pregnant.

My cycles were long, and getting longer the longer I stayed off bcp...Metformin snapped me right back to a 30 day cycle.

Some ladies with PCOS also try Soy Isoflavones and have luck with it (non prescription). Please feel free to stop in on the TTC with PCOS board if you want more information, the ladies there are great and can tell you the dosage and when to take it.

Good luck!

Sadly I know what it feels like to have a jerk for an OB. I won't got back to see him again if I need help. I would try taking the chasteberry and red clover supplement to help regulate your cycles. 30 days is long enough to wait to try again another cycle, but 50 some just seems like torture
I really hope you can find someone who will listen to your concerns.

Your doc is a quack. Not all herbal supplements are going to hurt your liver. Doesn't this chump know that herbs were the only medicines humans had for thousands of years before big pharmas starting producing synthetic medicines? That being said, herbal supplements can be just as, or far deadlier than synthetics, if you mix the wrong herbs together.

I would be extremely careful taking vitex agnus-castus if you suspect PCOS. I've heard conflicting reports about how effective it is for those women. If you decide to take it, make sure you read up on all the possible side effects, not just the glowing reviews. I can point you in the direction of some websites that will explain the darker side of side effects.

If you have any questions of concerns about vitex agnus-castus, let me know. I am taking it right now and I just finished reading up on it since it seems to already be affecting my hormones. Wasn't expecting that, didn't think I would see any effects for at least 3-4 months. I am by no mean an expert, but it's always nice to have someone to reassure you in situations like these.

GL and HTH!

You deff need to get a new doctor! A doctor is suppose to help you and be supportive. What your doctor did was uncalled for. I would be looking into new doctors while you try Agnus Castus. Just make sure to take a list of questions that you want to know the answer to this will help you get a better doctor.

Thanks ladies. I'm going to try chaseberry/vitex/agnus castus for a few months before I got back to a dr. There are no other Dr practices where I live, but I can see if I can see some one else at that practice. I had been waiting for this apointment for 2 weeks hoping for a positive apointment grr

52 days is torturous!

I would definitely switch, even if it is just to another doc in the same practice.

And 52 days would be absolutely hellish. I had one cycle that was 90 days long and it was HORRIBLE! And we were only NTNP at the time. I can't imagine having long cycles all the time. Hugs!

Wow. Are you completely sure your doc actually went to med school? How can he not know that PCOS affects fertility?!

I hope one of the other docs in the practice will see you quickly, and actually be competent. Even if you don't want to see the doc for a bit, go ahead and make an appointment, since it can take so long to get in.

With any luck, you will have to call in and change the appointment to a prenatal.
