Michelle, I know how scary the thought of intervention is, as I've been there, but it is one step closer. Just look at it as getting answers to questions and getting more information to get to your goal. In everything else we do in life, we know that we need the most info possible to succeed and reach our goals, but it somehow seems wrong or taboo to get the info when it comes to fertility. God's hand is at work in all of it, and he is still sovereign. I truly believe God sometimes works through human hands and those include drs. He is still the creator of life, no matter how that life has to be helped to get the egg fertilized or implanted, etc.
The HSG is a great first step in getting the needed info. It's relatively non-invasive, no downtime for you, and it's only mildly uncomfortable. It'll give your dr more info in what next steps to take for you and Joel. If Joel would agree to it, I'd actually have him go ahead and do the SA in concert with the HSG to get both pieces of that puzzle down at the same time. They need to know what they're dealing with and the more info they have, and the sooner they have it, the more quickly they can come up with a solution. Both Nina and I had mild issues with our DH's SA. Mine was easily solved with a few dietary changes and supplements, and Nina's Dh with antibiotics. It doesn't mean there's anything "wrong" with him if it comes back abnormal (as most men fear), most can be corrected and the sooner he gets started on the right plan should there be an issue, the sooner you two will get pregnant.
We worked on DH's SA issues, had my HSG, and got pregnant a few days after my HSG. I would continue to pray about it and I would do it if for nothing else to see what the results are. Praying for you, and you know that you can always message me here or on FB if you want to talk more about this or have any specific SA and HSG questions. (((HUGS)))
