Ok, thankfully he listened to me today. I told him about my longer cycles. Post m/c I had a 25 day cycle, a 23 day cycle, then a 20 day one. Right after that they went to 41 days and 38 and this current one I am on CD 23 and might have just ovulated. I also told him about my 2-3 day light periods and lack of fertile CM.
So, he offered me a choice of wait it out, Clomid or Metformin. So, DH and I are talking that over. We are ok with twins if that happens.
So, the good, the bad, the ugly on both....go! And TIA I'm just really thankful that I didn't leave crying and he's willing to help now.

Hey, Nena! I have no advice on specific options; however, I am so glad that you finally have some options.

I wish I could help out, but I haven't taken either Clomid or Metformin. I'm glad your doctor listened to you and is ready to take some action if you decide you want to. I'm sure some of the others will have some great advice for you!
KUP on what you decide!

I would go ahead and try it, why wait any longer? Yes twins is a possibility on clomid but really the chances are only upped somewhere around 5-10% depending on what website you read. Dh and I have also talked about this as he is concerned about twins and my RE has already mentioned clomid a couple months ago. Our concern about twins is that even though the chances are only slightly increased, I already have my own increased risk of natural twins. My mom is a twin, her brothers are twins and her mom is a twin and so is her dad, my pg with dd had 2 sacs and my pg with Isaac I had 2 corpus luithum cysts which made it seem that I released to eggs that cycle. But in the end if we have issues getting pg and are not pg by the end of the year, we will try the clomid, I do ovulate on my own but my ovulation is weak. So my thoughts are to go for it, I would.

I'm doing Clomid AND Metformin right now!
Metformin:
The Bad: Can give you some hardcore stomach issues while taking it. I'm talking, "Be near a bathroom at all times" :\
The Good: You may not get that ^ I am on 1500mg Metformin and get no side effects at all. I had the stomach issues when I tried it like 6 years ago but when I restarted last year I had nothing.
It can also regulate your cycles. Right now it's not regulating me but it has in the past.
Clomid:
The bad: Heard of headaches and dizziness and mood swings as side effects. I didn't have any of those though. However, it CAN make your boobs super super sore during the 2WW. Did to me and got my hopes up that I was pregnant
The good: Makes you O!
Neither good nor bad: slightly increased chance of twins
I would recommend either of them and hopefully you'll get lucky and the side effects won't bother you.

Thanks ladies, I talked to a friend and she is concerned that if I take Metformin that my body will get used to it and then need it to function properly (hormonally speaking.) She said it's happened to a few people she knows. DH still needs to weigh in on this decision but I know he will be fine with whatever I think is best. I will keep you posted. And boy, wouldn't it be nice to actually be pregnant right now (if I actually O'ed yet) and not have to worry about all of this?!

So glad that your doctor listened to you!! DH and I have been discussion options as far as clomid for us. If I get a BFP this month we're in month 9 of TTC. But like Michelle said, maybe you are preggo right now and won't have to worry about it!! My fingers are crossed super tight for you!!

no personal experience with either, my sister tried clomid for one cycle and didn't get prego but did get a visual disturbance that didn't go away for about a year. it was a black dot in the corner of her vision that was practically always there. have you tried the isoflavones supplements? I've heard they work very similarly. Whatever you decide, good luck and I hope you'll be looking at a bfp soon

I have no experience with either drug, but I say do what you got to do to get that bfp. The only thing I know about clomid is it usually dries your cm up, so I would take a supplement or whatever to counteract it that way you have an even greater chance to succeed each cycle, and that means less time on these drugs. But that's me.
So glad your dr is giving you options!!! GL and fx!

Nina, You know I went the Metformin route and to me it sounds like you are O'ing on your own...your body is just taking its sweet time doing it. I would caution that if your body is producing enough Estrogen on its own, and you start clomid you can get some HORRIBLE yeast infections. There is a girl on the PCOS board with me, who is having an awful time and is absolutely miserable due to the Clomid- she tried for two months and won't be taking it again soon.
As for the Metformin, yes it can irritate your stomach. If you do decide on Metformin, make sure they give you the extended release capsules - Metformin ER--everyone I talked to about Metformin said this greatly reduces the stomach problems. In addition, I always took mine right before bed- that way I had food in my system but wasn't a full stomach. I had about 2-3 days where my stomach was not happy and then it went away and all was great. My dr started me at the lowest dose 500mg, which also helps- ify our dr wants yout to take more than that to start I would consider taking the lower dosage for a week and then up'ing to the higher dosage. Seems most the ladies on the PCOS board did this and it also helps with the stomach stuff.
From what I have read the Clomid side effects happen for a longer period of time throughout your cycle, whereas once you get used to the Metformin then you should be good to go without side effects. As for your friends concern abotu your body getting used to it and not knowing how to do it on its own- I would think by the time you are pregnant for 9 months and give birth, etc your body would have had plenty of time to figure it out again.
Also meant to mention if you want to ask questions about Clomid or Metformin--stop by the PCOS board, the ladies there are great and are very familiar with both of these drugs for sure!

Thanks Brandy, I was hoping you would pipe in since you've went on Metformin. My friend was worried about me doing that since I don't have PCOS and she said it would be more likely for my body to get used to that than Clomid. But I suppose everyone is different and it's a horse a piece!
