Glad it isn't just me! I'm far too OCD to allow my notifications to not be empty, so it is awfully annoying.

Well, you can get to your Private Messages and signature and stuff by clicking User CP (Control Panel) in the pink line just below the pink nav bar (and probably the ad that is blocked for me here at work). It's also right near the title of the post- it's the link to the right of the Home link.
And if you like my post here, I can tell you how to get into the Likes page... I can't figure it out when I don't have any notifications myself, but I got in the other day when I did.

So to see your "Likes", you can click on your profile picture, which takes you to your stats and all that jazz. In your Address Bar, add the following to the address and go/enter: ?tab=likes_received#likes_received
So, for example, to see my Likes, I have justmommies address/forums/members/mainebean-57387.html?tab=likes_received#likes_received" in my address bar. You've got to have your username and their unique user ID in there, which is why it's easiest to just click on your little profile picture and paste the stuff ?tab.. etc in there.
