Ok so my OPK's in the mail today and I am CD4 and my period is about gone. I know this is not positive but I've never taken an OPK in my life. Is this getting close to positive? It was taken at 4:15 pm.

It's really light so I would say you are not close. Personally, mine stay that color until they are positive and then there is no mistaking the two dark lines. I think other ladies get gradations of colors that get darker as they get closer, but not me. Good luck though. What day do you normally ovulate?

I am not sure at all when I O. Never charted or done OPKs. I have a 24 day cycle and I'm taking soy this month?

If you don't mind me asking, why are you taking soy? If you have 24 day cycles, that sounds pretty normal. If you have a normal luteal phase, that would put you as Oing somewhere between CD10 and 12, so I would worry that soy would mess with your cycles if they are typically pretty regular.

As far as the OPK, that is still very negative. An OPK is only considered positive when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line and then you surge 12-48 hours after your final + OPK, typically.

I am taking the Soy because my cycles aren't the same every month. This month it was 24 days but last month it was 44. I am hoping for it to regulate me a little more and also to give me a stronger O.

Am I not taking it for the right reason?

I don't know a whole lot about soy except that it is can be used as a natural clomid.

Have you looked into Vitex at all? That is meant to help regulate your cycle. I am taking it this cycle because I had my IUD removed in May and my cycles have been all over the place. I am also taking it in hopes of extending my luteal phase.

I am going to look more into the Soy but I thought I had read somewhere that if you wouldn't need clomid, you shouldn't take Soy because too much soy can affect fertility negatively.

I didn't know it could affect it unless you took it longer than the recommended 5 days. I haven't looked into Vitex. Can you get it over the counter or is that a script?

Yeah that's very negative. Some women can get color like that pretty much all cycle long, so there's no telling what that means for you until you've done them a few cycles. If it starts to darken up it means you might be close to O but nothing is certain until the line is as dark or darker than the control. Even then it doesn't mean you will definitely O, just that it's quite likely you will within 12-48 hours of the positive.

Did you use FMU or SMU (or some other later in the day urine I don't know the acronym form)? Unlike HPTs it's better to use any urine other than FMU. I usually do SMU until the line starts to darken then SMU and again sometime between dinner and bed. It's possible to miss your surge if more than 12 hours passes between tests (or if you have a short surge).

Good luck!

Thanks ladies!! I took this one at 4:15 pm. I am done with AF so I will start testing today with SMU until I know what's happening with me since I have never used OPKs before. I know a side effect that I read about soy would be it could make you O sooner. My point in taking it was to make my O stronger and hopefully get my cycles to be the same. We will see what this month brings!

If you search opk series in Google images you can see what's what. This is my second cycle using opks and I have looked at 100's of series on the net so I can read them properly.

That is very negative. Unless the line is the same or darker than the control I would not consider it a positive. It is a little confusing at first, but after one cycle you will get the hang of reading them. GL this cycle!

You could be gearing up to O ... but I would not consider it to be positive until the test line is dark (or darker) than the control line

I guess I confused everyone. I know it's not positive. I meant to ask if it looks like it's on it's way to positive soon (within a few days) or if they are always this color when you use them and are negative. I guess I thought it would have been a lot lighter if O wasn't near. Does that make sense?

Sorry if I worded it wrong!

No, I know what you mean You might find the test line gets a little darker the day before you get a true positive

never tried that kind. With dollar store ones I almost always had a faint line, just darker as I got closer to Oing. I use answer brand now and they are always stark white, then as O gets closer it starts getting darker, but have yet to get one as dark or darker than control(maybe the 100mg of clomid will fix that)
