... how does this work?

My OB wanted DH to do a semen analysis and said for me to call the office and ask the receptionists about it but I didn't get any more information because we were trying to figure out insurance, etc....

So now I want to call and get the order for it. Does he just write the order? I'm super confused as to how this all works. Does every doctor offer the option to do it in your home and bring it to the lab within however long or is there a chance DH would have to actually do it in a lab? He doesn't want to do that.

I'm just totally lost and should have asked questions but I was just ready to get the heck out of there when he was talking about it.

I know most of you are likely reading this and asking yourselves why I just don't call up there. WELL. I cannot stand the woman that always answers the phone. She is just a walking bad attitude and I'm not in the mood for it today so I'd like to figure out what I'm supposed to do/ask before I go ahead and do it. I already had to call back and reschedule my followup appointment and if I hear someone rolling their eyes at me through the phone any more today I'm going to rip my hair out.

Thanks in advance ladies Lots of BFPs going around!!!

Unfortunately yes, every office is different. The doctor will likely just write up a req for it, (without an appointment) but you'll have to come in to get the collection cup and instructions if he does it at home. You'll also have to call and schedule an appointment for it, since they can only do so many in a time slot. (If they even have the resources to do more than one at a time.) You have to call about 3 weeks in advance at our lab, but it could be different where you are. (Just because that's how booked they are.)

At our lab, you do it at home (no rooms here for that, unless you count the bathroom) and bring it in within 45 minutes at body temperature. (Like keep it in an inside pocket or something.) If he is adamantly against doing it in the lab, you could try just telling them that he's going to do it at home and bring it in because you feel like the home environment would be more relaxing and "life-like" or something and therefore he would provide a better sample. (Worth a shot if they say he *has* to do it in the lab.)

the first time hubby had it done, the doc gave a lab order. He went to the hospital right close by so he was able to do his at home. They lost his results.

The second time, he got his doc with the va to order it. They don't do it at the VA hospital, so he was sent to another hospital. The lab order was sent over and it was arranged to come in during a certain time. He had to do it in the bathroom there. He was not happy about doing it there.

Thanks ladies... so I get the collection cup and the instructions from the doctor's office, then bring the sample into the lab?

Our lab is in our hospital, which is part of the Cleveland Clinic so I'm hoping they have the knowledge and technology to let us do it here then bring it up

I still haven't called my doctor for the referral/order but I'll definitely get it done soon, because I want the report by the time we go back in (Sept. 5th)

we got the cup from the hospital labs each time. Doc gave us a lab order. Hubby called to find out how to do it, we went and picked up the cup with the instructions.

Here in England it's there, not at home as you need it in within the hour.

Shawn just provided his specimen at home in the cup the lab gave me after the OB ordered the lab. My OB told me to put the cup in between my breasts and get it to the lab no longer than an hour after. I got it there within 15 minutes, dropped it off and we were done

Obviously she told me to put it in my boobs to keep it warm lol
