I have a dental appt on the 25th to get a couple fillings redone (getting mercury out and white fillings instead) as well as getting a cap done. Last cycle I ovulated on CD21 which this cycle that would be the 23rd...do you think this dental work could interfere with ovulation or implantation/pregnancy? I won't get any pain meds, only novacaine with epinephrine and I'll take tylenol after if I need it but probably won't. could this negatively affect me or possible baby?

The one time I had a MC I had dental work done in the first week or two of pregnancy and I miscarried at 13 weeks (possibly 8 or 9 weeks, we were unsure of date). I always wondered if that affected anything or not and just curious for this time around. Thoughts?

No, you will be fine. As long as you don't need a xray.

Nope, got those last month. Thanks! I always worry about mercury in the fillings in general. Wish I had none with mercury in them.

I would get all the work done now instead of when you know you're pregnant!

I tried. I was supposed to get it done this week but I have 20 visitors in town for work and this week is crazy and I cannot get away Let's hope I ovulate on CD 27, haha! That is what FF gave me crosshairs for last month, but I changed it as I thought I CD 21 was more likely. Who knows tho.

I just got a TON of dental work done while TTC when I got my root canal done and a cavity. The only thing we were really worried about was money, because all my dental work cost about 7,000$ lol. You should be fine though, I asked my dentist a lot of questions about it.

Wow, that is a lot of $$$! I am glad I have dental insurance, but I still had to pay about $1000, which is a lot to me! Although if I have to pay $1 for something that is not fun to buy, that is too much for me, lol!

Speaking of dental work... I have to go to the dentist in the morning.. I HATE the dentist.. Especially after getting pregnant, I have never had ANY issues with my teeth, but when I was preggo I got pregnancy gingivitis and my gums receded a bit and now they are SUPER sensitive

AND... Check out the advertisement on the right when I opened this thread.... Coincidence? Lol

I have a cavity that needs to get filled eventually and my dentist said they prefer to hold off in the first trimester. I've cancelled it twice for not knowing- this last time was good timing since I was in fact 3 weeks along!

I also let them know at my last cleaning and they did x-rays then since I'd be late assuming I was PG in the next few months.

I'd give them a call and just put it out there that you're trying to get pregnant and they'll I'm sure discreetly let you knwo what they will and won't do.

Whenever I have dental work during the TWW (which I always seem to!), I let them know that I *might* be pregnant. They appreciate knowing, so they can be more careful about some things. Besides x-rays, mine also uses a different kind of anesthesia during pregnancy. Not a clue what the difference is, I just remember them mentioning it.

Thanks everyone. I will call them and ask. If I haven't ovulated by then, then I won't worry about it. I can always cancel 24 hours before.

That advertisement is funny!

Hmmmm. Doctor and dentist told me it was fine, but I don't know about the mercury fillings. i had miscarriage at 6 1/2 weeks and had a dental implant uncovered the day before. The irrational side of my brain thought that maybe the dental work had something to do with it, but based on the lack of development of the fetus, I think the doctor was right. I just didn't know I had lost the baby. BUT, I would call the dentist and tell them in advance and tell them the day of also (usually they won't do x-rays). This time I tried to get all my dental work finished before actively TTC again, just so I'd have one less thing to obsess about. Good Luck.
