So I just have to get this off my chest because I'm about to explode. My husband and I moved out of a home we were renting because we couldn't afford it and getting behind on the rent. We gave the landlord over 45 days notice and it has been he** since we moved out. The landlord won't attempt to find someone else to rent it. As of this evening I received two nasty voicemails. Ugh! I talked to a lawyer the other day about the situation, I hope he calls back early tomorrow. I just want this over with.
As to what kind of a rental agreement you signed with him will determine what he can do legally/financially towards you guys. If you signed a year lease, unfortunately you are liable for that- regardless of if you're living there or not. I know how much that bites- I ALMOST signed a one year lease on a house this time last year and I'm so glad I didn't because I read the fine print and that was one of the conditions.
Hopefully you were just doing a month to month- because then he doesn't have a leg to stand on!
