After feeling so crappy I came across this:

"My SIL was still breastfeeding her then 16 month old when she was starting to TTC and her OB told her that HCG might not show up on a home pregnancy test in early days because of the breastfeeding. I *think* this same doctor told her to try breast milk on the test instead but she may have just said to come in for a blood test. I do know for sure the doc told her that breastfeeding could lead to inaccurate negatives on an HPT"

However, I've gotten mixed reviews on whether or not breast milk can be used. I know there is a greater chance for an inaccurate result but I have also seen some cases where breast milk has picked up a positive before using urine. Some say that HCG is sometimes dumped into the breast milk and does not get concentrated in the urine and therefore can cause a pregnancy test to not read positive for longer.

What do you think?

From what I've read, I wouldn't rely on the accuracy of using breastmilk as a way to test for pregnancy. I think I would question the results whether positive or negative. According to peeonastick.com, if you go to the Fun with HPT's she experiments with testing with breastmilk. Her first experiment streaked the dye, but gave an accurate negative. Then, she had a friend try it, who got a false positive from it. So again, I wouldn't try it or at least wouldn't trust the results. I didn't have any problems with the hpt picking up my pregnancy when I was still nursing my 5 month old at the time. I tested and got a blaring positive. Since I didn't have a previous af to base it off I went in for an u/s and I was only 5 weeks. So I think I would have had the same results as anyone not nursing. Hope that helps!

Lol I might just have to...but pregnancy tests are expensive...ahh..lol

I'm really wondering about this concept of HCG being dumped into breast milk bc my bff did not get a positive preg test with her son till 7 weeks! She was nursing her 6 month old at the time and just felt off. She took dozens of tests...all negative. Finally after weeks she got one positive, went for a sono the next day and was 7 WEEKS! She could never figure out why she had been getting all those negatives.......

I could test it. My bb's started leaking again last night! I stopped nursing my daughter the end of Oct. early Nov. last year when I got pg. I dried up quickly though. Then I had the m/c but everything seemed back to normal. But last month at about this time in my cycle, I started leaking. And then, last night my bb's were hurting and I looked down to see them both leaking!? Anyways, if you'd like an experiment done, I'll test it for you. I still don't think the results should be trusted in any way. But I love testing hpt's and I've got quite a bit of them.

Ok. So I tried it but don't know if it wasn't enough or if it was just to thick but it only ran across half the test. Then, go me, went to put it on the shelf above my toilet to let it sit and see if it would finish going across the strip, and I dropped it in the toilet! And sorry ladies, I was not fishing it out of the toilet and then taking a picture of it at that point. I will however try another one in a little while! Lol. Yep. I think I'm off my rocker!

P.S.- I'm so not telling DH I've done this!
