Went to my first appt today. Dr did in office u/s. The initial was done with their "new" machine, transvaginally, but he couldn't get the probe to work. So did a abdominal, saw what we "think" may be a small sac and baby but not sure. Then he pulled out the old office u/s machine, transvaginally and didn't see anything but said it was a little grainy. He said in all honesty he doesn't have much hope but it could be early. (if we went by LMP I would be 9 wks today). I'm not sure when I o'ed so I can't really help there. They had me draw blood for hcg testing. I should get my numbers tomorrow. I don't have much hope, been pretty much crying since I got home. Dh doesn't want to lose hope yet but I really can't help but feel discouraged. What gets to me even more is that this morning I really thought I found the heartbeat with my home doppler.

Now I'm not so sure it's baby at all since there doesn't seem to be one.

Anyone else ever go through this? I have a little lower back pain (which I'm not sure if it is all in my mind or not), no cramping right now, no bleeding, or anything.

Okay, first, an ABDOMINAL u/s is not going to pick up such a small baby very well. I never had an abdominal that early with any pregnancy and I have had a lot of u/s. I never got an abdominal until I was at least 12 to 13 weeks. That is a lot of growing time. See the pic in my profile pic? That is an extreme close up of baby at 9 weeks with a vaginal u/s. I honestly don't know why your OB would say something like that without confirmation. PLEASE don't give up hope!!!

P.S. I also have a hard time believing that your Doppler could pick up a 171 WITHOUT there being a baby in there! That would be right on target with gestation too.

I think you need a better ultrasound! And an experienced tech! Fingers crossed that you have a nice high hcg level.

Ahh! No! Please. . . don't be discouraged yettt! I think that everything will work out just fine I would definitely think that the belly u/s wouldnt pick up anything at this rate! Please dont count yourself out yet !

Thanks everyone. The triage nurse called and my results are still processing. She says she hopes they should be available later this morning or early afternoon.

Good Luck! And don't give up hope. Some doctors really do not know what they are talking about and open their mouths too soon without anything to back it up on. Heaven forbid they blame the new machine for being at fault. Clearly there is a reason to have a new one, why bring out the old one if it produces "grainy" results.

Well my numbers came back at 264. So she said definitely pregnant just very early. But I'm worried that if I got a positive on May 2nd I would think my number would be larger than that. Not feeling very good about this number. I have to go back tomorrow morning for another draw.

I have a good feeling that your numbers will be higher tomorrow, we have to remember that Dr are humans too and they DO make mistakes...try not to worry you do not want to stress that little bean out. Just know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have my fx for you.

Some beans are just "pokey" and can take a while to increase. Thinking of you and your little bean

It's not about the number it's about if they are increasing or not I believe!
