Last weekend I took an ovulation test and it came up positive so hubby and I did the deed all weekend. Today I took another one and it came up positive again, I actually took 2 and they both were positive. So I read online that was a good indication that I was pg. So I went out and took a HPT and it came back negative. So now I am confused. Did I ovulate 2 times this month? Was the 1st ovulation test a false positive? Am I PG and it is just too early for a positive HPT? I do not know what to think. My cycles aren't always the same amount of days apart every month so without these tests I do not know when or if I ovulate.
Basically, OPK's can detect other hormones and falsely give you a positive when you're not actually ovulating. A positive OPK doesn't mean that you DID ovulate, it means that you should have. It is far more accurate for women with regular cycles and combined with BBT charting, checking cervical mucus and position as well to confirm ovulation. I don't know that it is possible or likely that you could ovulate twice in a cycle, but I have heard that it could be an indication of pregnancy.. however, most OPK's say you don't need to continue testing after your first positive. It is hard to say what's going on but all you can do is wait and see if AF shows, then you can count back and see if your ovulation date matches up with what the OPK showed as a positive.
A pos OPK means you are ABOUT to ovulate within 12 to 72 hours after taking the test...it doesn't show if you did..or even if you actually WILL ovulate, just that you are about to.....however, some women gear up to O, then for some reason don't (get a cold, stress, etc, weirdness) and then their body can gear up again and actually ovulate. This might be what happened if you got positives two weeks in a row.
Also, was it a true positive last weekend? What are you considering a positive? Was it as dark or darker than the control line? If not, then it probably wasn't a true positive and perhaps this weekend's was.
Another thought is that some women with PCOS have trouble using OPK's as it gives them false positives because of the cysts giving off LH throughout their cycle.
I'm not sure if any of these cases apply to you...but those are my thoughts...
Give us some more info and maybe we can help out more Thanks for joining us and Welcome!!
^^Ditto! All kinds of things could be reasons why you had two positives. What CD were you on when you began testing the first time and second time? Was it a TRUE positive? Maybe the first was not a true positive and the second was a true positive. So many scenarios that could explain what happened.
First + was 13dpo. It read positive on the screen or showed a smiley face I should say. I had taken a test everyday that week and finally on that Friday it showed a smiley face. So DH and I did the BD all weekend. Then for some reason something made me want to test again yesterday just to see what it would show. I was 21dpo yesterday and again another smiley face. So I read online why I would be getting this and went out and bought a HPT. Came home took another OPK, another smiley face, took the HPT and it read not pg. Next AF is due 09/19 but my last cycle was 46 days from the last so it is never regular. I do have PCOS or was diagnosed with it over 10 years ago. I was over weight and got AF 4 times the year I conceived my 1st DD (08/10/03). It took my ex hubby and I over 6 years to have her. I had gastric bypass in 2005 and got pg with my 2nd DD (09/25/06) without even knowing it. I was a month pg when I took a test as a precaution to start taking bcp and was very shocked when it came out +. My DH and I have only been trying since the end of June. The first month I tried BBT and was temps were so screwy that I gave up with that, so this month I was just doing OPKs. Since I have no idea what my body is doing then I guess DH and I will just BD as much as possible in the next few days, I am sure he will have no complaints
I think you are right, you already O'd. What are your cycles normally like? I think you very well could be getting something on the OPK's, but it's still too early for an HPT to pick it up! Let us know!
Mom to Ava (8) and Layla (6). Bennett Scott due May 19, 2014!
clear blue easy for the HPT too. They are the only digital ones I could find at Walmart. My cycles vary month to month. Shortest cycle has been about 34 days and longest has been over 50. Last month was 46 days.
I would get a pink line dye test, some times those
HCG digi tests aren't as sensitive, and you could really
just be too early to get a bfp yet.. if going by first smiley,
You could be any were from 5dpo to 8dpo..
well I am hoping if I did O last week that we BDed enough to catch O and if not we are makign sure to BD everyday this week too just incase. Hopefully one or another was good one and we will conceive. My worst fear is that it takes 6 years to have another baby like it did with my 1st DD. I am going to be 35 in a few weeks so I am not a spring chicken anymore.
I agree with the other ladies.....BD just in case the first + OPK was your body trying to O and didn't. It is also possible that you could be pregnant as well but too early to detect. Hope you get a surprise BFP in a few days
