I have this awful rash or something on my hand. This is actually the second time this has happened. I had just one ring looking thing on the palm of my hand around Thanksgiving time but it went away on it's own. Now it is back but in between my fingers and on the palm of my hand. I woke dh up with all my scratching last night. I don't think it looks like the pictures I have seen of ringworm but can't figure out what the heck it is.
I already have problems with this hand rash. Dyshidrotic Eczema (Dyshidrotic Dermatitis) in Adults: Condition, Treatment and Pictures - Overview | skinsight It bugs me from time to time. (I self diagnosed this but have had problems with it since I was a kid.)
But, this looks different. I have been thinking it is ringworm but I just don't think it looks like ringworm. Any ideas. I spent like an hour visiting Dr. Google last night and it didn't get me anywhere.

I marked the spots in circles because the one on my palm is hard to see. Do you know how hard it is to photograph your own hand?
I am going to pick up some Lotrimin and hydrocortizone on the way home and see if I can get rid of it.

I don't think it's ringworm... Ringworm I think is much more distinctive... like someone jabbed you with a round stick and left a big welt. I think yours is much more like hives. Did you handle any household cleaners recently?

They're not hives.
They almost look like bites. Could you have been bitten or something? Other than that, could defo be a skin allergy or perhaps a reaction to the meds you have taken.
How is it now? Hope it goes away so you don't itch anymore.
On a funnier side, my mom always told me if your hand itches, it means you're going to get some money....ha ha, always laughed at her.

It's not ringworm, it's not hives. Patty I have the exact same excema you do and it looks like that now and then, mine flares on my hands pretty bad. Only thing that works for me is a lotion with tons of vitamin E in it, none of that fungus lotion or hydrocortizone stuff works for me.

Yeah I can only offer that it's definitely not ringworm. Been there, done that, it didn't look anything like that. I think it starts on the trunk too, not the hand if I remember right. I'd go with MotherFrog since you have two have the same type of excema.

You know I think you could be right. It feels like the eczema I get but it didn't look like it. And the last time I had this happen around Thanksgiving it was in a ring shape right in the middle of my hand. The eczema seems to be stress induced so I won't be surprised if that is what this is and why it was so bad last night.

That's originally why I said hives... even though it doesn't look like it... because I (and my BFF) both get hives when we are seriously stressing out. But it's always on the legs and they're big fat white welts... lol.
Try to relax a little... maybe get some comfort foods (mmm chocolate cake), watch your favorite movie and just take it easy.

Not ringworm. Ringworm won't go away on it's own either, it'll just keep getting wider and wider, leaving a target like thing.
I probably would have asked if you touched anything that could have irritated your skin or caused a reaction.
Rachel (my 2 year old), had welts one time, I didn't think it was hives, but apparently it was a kind of hive. Hives can look so different, so I would have suggested hives too.
But maybe it's skin issue. How long did it take to go away the last time?

This is just me, but it looks like allergic contact dermititis. A kid I used to take care of at an old day care used to get a skin rash that looked very similar to that because she was allergic to additives in stuff like cleaning materials (we had to move to a simple bleach solution for her) and laundry detergents. I think she had something special to help it heal though because hers would get quite bad. Did look very similar though.

I would try to think back to when the rash started if you can pinpoint it at all and see if you might have used any type of cleaner, detergent, if you were at the hospital (maybe they use something that doesn't agree with you and you came in contact with it). Maybe if you can find out what you were around you can find out what might be causing it.
It might be a stretch but for me it would be a situation where maybe I used the dishwasher (I normally do dishes by hand) and tried a new dish detergent.. or bought a laundry det that's on sale when I normally buy free and clear. That kinda thing. Sometimes its worth a shot.

I agree that it looks like excema. My brother had it REALLY bad as a child and he'd get it on the back of his knees and on his ankles. Hydrocortizone was the ONLY thing that worked for him. (Also sweat and heat will make that worse...so try not to wear gloves unless you have to.)

Actually the old wives tale says, "Right to receive, Left to leave". So always hope that it's your right hand that itches.

I am finally starting to get over this rash. It was horrible. I do not think it was eczema now. I started taking benedryl and it stopped bothering me. I have had to take benedryl around the clock for the last few days to make it stop. The lotrimin and hydrocortizone did nothing but the benedryl really helped.
I think it was some type of contact allergy. I still haven't figured out what it was but the fact that it was just on one hand and benedryl worked makes me think it had to be an allergy. I thought I was going to go insane from all the itching.

Have you tried calymine (sp?) lotion for the itching at all? That stuff is a miracle cream if I get a rash or bite. We spend so much time outdoors in the UP during warmer months and I have to keep it on hand. I also like to use either Gold Bond lotion or Vanicream because its no dye/perfume and at least won't make the itching worse.
