I also posted this in AIP Venting Place but it occurred to me that might be the wrong place.

I'm sorry this is so long but I really need advice!!!

Here are the facts:

My period is at least two (possibly three) weeks late. We are NOT trying to conceive, so I haven't kept close track of it. Today is Dec. 5th, and my last period began sometime between Oct. 16th and 26th.

I was on birth control pills for years, but stopped taking them four months ago because they completely eliminated my sex drive. Since then, my period has been regular (and it always has been).

I am allergic to condoms and diaphragms; we have been using a combination of condoms and the withdrawal method, to give me a break from the condoms. I know withdrawal is not fool-proof, but our options are pretty limited. We were using the withdrawal method during late October and November.

My husband is very good at this method, but he did make a mistake on October 10th. I took the morning-after pill the next day, and got my period as usual that month. I have taken Plan B before, years ago, with no complications.

I have Crohn's Disease. I know what Crohn's feels like, and this isn't it. Most of my Crohn's swelling has actually gone away in the last few weeks.

I have taken three pregnancy tests-- once a week for three weeks-- and they have all been negative, but my symptoms persist. I've been tested for a UTI three times, and seen my gastro specialist and a general practitioner. Both can find nothing wrong with me. A urine pregnancy test at the GP was negative for pregnancy as well. I still haven't been blood-tested or had an ultrasound.

I am feeling:

Nausea, mostly in the morning but sometimes at other times of day as well. Around the time I believe I should have had my period, I threw up three mornings in a row. Since then, I have felt the need to vomit on occasion but have controlled the urge. The nausea is mostly just annoying, with a light heartburn-ish feeling, except that it isn't up in my chest. I feel it right near the bottom of my ribs. It improves a bit if I eat.

Extreme fatigue. The most extreme that I have ever felt.

Slight headaches that come and go for no reason. They are not migraines (which I'm familiar with).

Frequent urination. For almost three weeks, I was peeing every hour... no joke. My doctors finally recommended I drink less, to prevent peeing so often, because my private parts were getting irritated. I'm thirsty all the time now but I pee somewhat less.

Slight breast soreness. Usually it's nothing much, but occasionally I bump something and get a sharp pain which burns a bit afterwards. My boobs are also growing enormous. I thought maybe it was in my head, but I've started to get stretch marks on them now.

Hunger. My Crohn's Disease seems to eliminate my hunger, but lately I've been very hungry, particularly for salt and dairy products (which I'm not supposed to have).

FUPA. If you don't know what this is, don't Google it at work. Basically, I'm putting on weight in my abdomen. I'd expect that since I'm eating more, but I've put on noticeable weight below my belly-button. This is all somewhat unusual, since I generally don't put on weight in my stomach at all.

I've been sneezing occasionally, and I've had some drainage in the back of my throat, but it is cold and flu season here. Might or might not be related.

Moodiness. Extreme moodiness. I went through clinical depression many years ago, and it felt very much like this. My poor husband doesn't know what to do (poor guy).

Help me please!

My gastro doctor thinks I'm pregnant. My GP is baffled. My gynecologist is letting me come in this week, but she's convinced I'm not pregnant (because the tests are negative). Everyone is treating me like I'm nuts, while simultaneously telling me to avoid anything risky until I get my period. I desperately need to go back on my Crohn's medication if I'm not pregnant, and I need to treat these symptoms ASAP regardless. If I'm not pregnant, what else could be wrong with me?

Did your OB give you a blood test or urine?

I've had one urine test, at the GP. I've also urine tested at home. No blood tests yet.

2nd the Blood Tests...I'm surprised your GP didn't do one. However, I will tell you that Plan B can delay your period and ovulation...even if it hasn't done so in the past. So, that could be your issue.

Can Plan B delay your second period? What I mean is: can you take the pills, and then get a normal period at the normal time, and then miss the following month entirely? My gynecologist never mentioned that it could happen that way!

PS: I've also been surprised that no one will give me a blood test. It looks like I'm going to have to demand one, which seems awkward and silly.

I've taken plan B and it threw me off cycle totally for a while.

It's really common for women to have a few regular cycles when they first come off the Pill, and then to suddenly start being irregular for awhile. It's because it takes a few months for all the synthetic hormones to leave your system, then your own natural hormones have to figure things out again. The Plan B can certainly throw your hormones off even more.

Pregnancy is possible, both condoms and withdrawal have decent failure rates. But it's also possible that your cycles are adjusting to all of the big hormonal changes your body is been through recently. The only way to be sure is a blood test.

If you're not PG, have you considered tracking your fertility signs as a form of family planning? Modern methods of Natural Family Planning are 96-99% effective, much higher than condoms or withdrawal. You can use the guidelines even if your cycles are irregular, because you learn to tell each day if you're fertile or not.

UPDATE (12-9-2011):

Well.

My period has yet to arrive, and my symptoms have yet to abate, but my gynecologist refused to give me a blood-test or an ultrasound at my appointment yesterday. They did urine test me again-- still negative-- and she decided that was proof enough that I am not pregnant. She admitted that she has "no idea" what is wrong with me, but she believes pregnancy is impossible because I'm still having negative urine tests. She sent blood work out to be tested, but only for a thyroid condition. I get the results on Monday.

I have no idea why no one will give me a pregnancy blood-test or an ultrasound. I'm not being silly or unreasonable, and I've never had a doctor refuse to test me for anything before. Is there some kind of unspoken issue here that I'm unaware of? Do doctors routinely refuse to blood-test for pregnancy? My blood pressure was high (it often is) so is that why she wouldn't test? I'm so confused.

I don't know whether to trust my doctor's judgement here. She told me to go back on all of my medications because she believes I'm not pregnant. But she also has no explanation for my symptoms or my missed period, and she actually seemed worried. And those medications would harm a fetus, if there were one. I wish she hadn't seemed worried in front of me.

I'm at my wit's end. My gynecologist's office is treating me like I'm crazy, even though I'm nearly two months out from my last period. I'm starting to believe they might be right. I'm just so tired of being sick.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I appreciate your help.

I think it's time for a second opinion. It doesn't sound like your gyno is very good. Some women never get positives with urine tests, they just don't. I'd find someone who can do a blood test before going back on your meds.

These doctors are exceptionally good about investigating reproductive problems.

I agree. Definitely get a blood test before starting the meds again. What about your regular doctor? You could call him/her and see if they would give you a blood test.

Hope that you get answers soon.

I was also one not to get a positive with the urine tests once. I kept telling doc I was and the test kept saying I wasn't. until the blood test proved I was.

Get a second opinion, can't hurt, may even clear up some questions.

Did you ever find out if you were pregnant? I'm going through slightly similar issues. Everyone thinks I'm crazy because the tests are negative, but I don't have any explanation for what's going on... Just curious if you ever found out

Hello All:

Just thought I'd follow-up and let everyone know what happened to me.

The long and the short of it is that I was pregnant. Now I am not.

Every doctor (my gyno, my GP, even my GI specialist) refused to blood-test me for pregnancy. I'm not sure why, but I guess I serve as a cautionary tale. MAKE THE DOCTOR RUN THE TESTS. I didn't, or I felt like I couldn't, and I let them shame me into thinking I was crazy. I was not.

I miscarried at just under three-months out from my last period. My bad health-history disguised the pregnancy by keeping my hormone levels low. They're calling it a "chemical pregnancy," but my new gynecologist thinks I may have damaged a fragile fetus by going back on my Crohn's medications. There's no way to know. Regardless, I should have had those tests run and SO SHOULD YOU.

It's work body, it's your medical bill, and you have the right to ask for any tests you deem necessary. On the other hand, the reason they don't do these tests every time is because women who are TTC want to be tested every month. And I guess the doctors feel that's a waste of time. If you aren't at least two months out, you probably shouldn't bother. You'll make everything harder for those of us in scary circumstances.

I'm doing okay. We weren't trying to get pregnant and we weren't ready for children. My new gynecologist believes I may not be healthy enough to bear children, at any rate. But I still feel sad sometimes, and I'm still angry that no one listened to me. My husband is quite calm about the whole situation in front of me, but he yelled quite a lot at my gynecologist's office shortly after the miscarriage.

Anyway, I just thought I ought to let you know.

I'm so sorry and I'm also sorry you didn't have a better experience with your doctors.

I know the feeling. I even had a blood test at what I believe was five weeks (I actually still bled lightly during my "period times" throughout the pregnancy) and even that was negative. I assumed I was crazy just like everyone were telling me, low and behold at what would've have been three months, I miscarried alone in a customer's bathroom, only five days after Christmas. So I know how you feel. :/
