Hi ladies. I'm Alana. I just got off birth control to try a method with no hormones. I was missing pills often in the last month or two but since I quit the pill I have had a brown discharge resembling old blood. I know it's normal to get a period right after you stop pills, but i wondered can I still be pregnant and spotting this stuff? I've had the worst nausea for two weeks and cracked it up to nerves and anxiety but I have food aversions and headache and such. When would symptoms start? Is it even possible to have gotten pregnant and be spotting? I'm asking only because I don't know if I should pick up a test.

Thank you.

Yes! Lots of ladies spot in early pregnancy. However, it's very common to have spotting after getting off the pill. Of all the things you mentioned, though, it was the food aversions that caught my attention. I have a lot of hormonal symptoms at various times in my cycle (nausea, headaches, etc.) but I have only experienced food aversions during pregnancy.

I would suggest picking up a test just to ease your mind. You can get them pretty cheaply these days. Just be sure to get one that uses pink dye (not blue) as the pink dye tests are more reliable.

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Some ladies do spot during the early stages of pregnancy and you have other symptoms as well, so it's worth a test!

Thanks ladies I took a 99 cent store test with 2nd morning urine and negative but my diet has totally changed in preferences ....maybe my hormones changing. I almost thought I was getting anemic from so much bleeding then now so much old brown blood. I go through waves of feeling good and yucky. I can't see my dr til the 7th so I'll know more then. I could be testing too soon just be ultra sensitive to the change...can symptoms start right away? Can I still get pregnant with this spotting? We did dtd a couple times this week and someone said that I am probably fertile.

Sorry about the negative but as you said, it may just be too early.

As for being fertile now, there's really no way of knowing unless you are using ovulation predictor kits or taking your basal body temperature. Especially since you're just coming off the pill, your cycle could be out of whack for a while.

When are you planning to test again?

Maybe I'll see if this spotting goes away and then if I get a period back or feel worse or better. I'm kinda doubting I am tho. But now that I'm not using an bc I know I could get pregnant at any time should my body decide it wants to.
