Okay. For years now I've been waiting to get pregnant and maybe semi-trying with my husband. We've been together for 10 years and married for well over 7 or so. Our plan was to finally begin trying officially once we moved into our new place this coming March. However, it seems things came a little early...

For the past month in January I was suffering some unusual things. First, I had a major mood swing where my job got to me so bad that I broke down crying. Second, my breasts started become terribly tender to the touch and just hurt to do anything with. I found that weird but ignored it. Third, I slept like a log. I'd literally pass out all the way until the afternoon and even then I still found it possible to sleep longer.

I never saw any spotting because I wasn't really paying attention for that. I did have an unusual amount of discharge but nothing like spotting. I confused this all for PMS symptoms because I tend to think my mood kicks up badly just when I'm beginning to start my period.

But then... my period never came.

January I have not had my period at all and here we are into Februrary.

It was only then that I began to suspect something was really wrong. I was jokingly teasing my husband I could be pregnant, but then it really hit me when I tried to figure out if I had my period at all in January.

I explained it to my sister and asked what her symptoms were and she told me. Finally, I figured I'd buy a pregnancy test. Imagine my surprise when I went in to take a test while we were at Fridays and had the two lines light up bright pink. Shocked was the word.

Confusing it for a fluke, I bought a digital one this time and took it at home later. Clearblue. Same thing. It said I was pregnant. Then this morning when I went to the bathroom I took two more and both came out with the same results.

I'm ... speechless. Is it possible? Of course the tests, symptoms are both telling me but ... I'm so unsure. I've made a plan to see the doctor but I'm still just in awe. Is it at all possible that the tests are just flukes or hormones in my body think its pregnant?

You are definitely pregnant. Congratulations! Many early pregnancy symptoms are the same as PMS symptoms so it's easy to mistake one for the other. Also, most women don't spot during early pregnancy so the absence of spotting really doesn't mean anything.

The only way you could have the pregnancy hormone in your body is if you are pregnant or if you have been on a medicine that contains hcg (believe me, you would know it if that were the case). And while we occasionally see evaporation lines or indent lines (aka, false positives), bright lines and positive digital tests are a sure sign.

You are pregnant! Congratulations!!!!

Oh my goodness... I guess I'm just in such shock denial. This will be my first child. When would I be due if all this started in January?

At first, your due date will be based on the first date of your last period. If your periods are irregular, an early ultrasound might alter the dates a bit.

Here's a link to a due date calculator. Just put in the first date of your last period and it'll pop up with your due date: Due Date Calculator: Calculate Pregnancy Due Date

Congratulations! I understand the feelings of shock. With my first pregnancy I had signs, but I explained them all away or ignored them. It was just too hard to imagine that I could actually be pregnant! I think it will sink in more once you've seen a doctor.
