My husband and I have been trying to conceive. My obgyn, however, wanted to come in for a progesterone level blood test a week after i ovulated.

So I got a positive ovulation test, did the deed (3 days before the positive and every other day after that), called the office to make an appointment, and got one for 10 days later....at 330 in the afternoon. I know it is early, but i have so many symptoms of pregnancy....headaches, cramping, spotting, sore nipples, fatigue. But today my doctor called telling me my progesterone level is really low. It is too early to take a test. Is there a chance that because blood was drawn in the afternoon, after I ate, that the results could be misleading? Is there a chance I could be pregnant?

I am concerned because if I am, I have read that low progesterone can cause miscarriages. But my doctor told me to call her back after the next time i get a positive opk. I am worried about waiting that long.

Hi and welcome! I don't have a lot of knowledge on this subject but I do know that if you do end up being pregnant, your doctor can put you on progesterone at that point. I would suggest testing every day until you either get a positive or you get your period. Then if you get a positive, you can call the doctor immediately. By the same token, knowing that your progesterone is already low, I'm kind of surprised she didn't put you on something now. But again, I don't really know much about how that works. Maybe one of the other ladies here can weigh in.

Good luck!

I have low progesterone and had 2 losses, I take prometrium at 3 dpo, I would ask your ob for the prometrium to take after ovulation, taking after getting a bfp doesn't always work, it works best taken before implantation.

Hi there! I had low progesterone with my last two pregnancies.... however I was never checked prior to getting my bfp. But in any regards... I would say that it isn't impossible for you to be pregnant depending on what day you actually did O. But if your progesterone levels are really low than it will be more difficult for the little bean to get snuggled in. I would test again in a couple of days because if you do get a bfp you will need to get on supplements right away to help in sustaining pregnancy. Don't give up hope!!! I hope everything works out for you! But hopefully if you don't get pregnant this cycle your doctor will put you on supplements right after O so it can help aid you in getting your bfp!

I also wanted to tell you that usually the progesterone tests are done at 7 dpo, doing it earlier or later can give misleading results. Some Drs want to do the test on cd 21, but not everyone ovulates on cd 14, so they may not be 7 dpo on cd 21.
