I'm 39 and I have 2 kids above the age of 16. I haven't been pregnant in over 16 years. Last month my period started on Dec. 1st. I had an awfully long period. It lasted about 12-14 days. On Dec.16th my husband and I had unprotected sex. (Pull-out method) I've never been on birth control and have used the pull out method for 16 years now. With my previous 2 pregnancies I was nauseous and the minute I took a hpt it showed positive right away. I am 12 days late today and I took a First Response HPT two days ago, at 10 days late, and it was negative. My periods have always been regular. My only symptoms is I feel bloated and sore around my abdomen. I'm not nauseous, my breasts don't hurt, nothing. I'm not on any medications and my only stress is not getting my period. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, what was the outcome?

Have you considered perimenopause?

Do you know when your mother and/or grandmother started menopause?

I've read about perimenopause but not sure if it's that or if I'm pregnant. I'm concerned that the First Response hpt may be giving me a false negative even tho I've never experienced that.

I don't know when my mom or grandmother began menopause and unfortunately they are both deceased so I can't ask.

At 10 days late you should get a no doubt about it positive assuming you are truly late. You could have a longer cycle length but by LP not be late. I would call your gynecologist and let them know you're two weeks late and you had a funky December cycle after years of regular cycles. Typically that's long enough to get a quant test drawn. Maybe they can also pull some other labs like thyroid and hormones while they're at it.

It is normal for women to have one or two anovulatory cycles a year, even if they're otherwise completely regular and healthy. Based on my experience with anovulatory cycles, I have a longer than normal cycle length but shorter bleeding, and then the next cycle I experience an earlier than normal ovulation.
