When the judge signs the paperwork is when it's legal.
My divorce was final on Nov. 18th, I didn't get the paperwork until a week later. But it was final as of the court date. I went to a final court date where the judge asked me if this is what I wanted & a few other questions. He granted the divorce which was legal right on the spot.
This confused me too.
Our settlement conference was on Jan. 4th, and the judge said "I can have you divorced today." I just got noticed last week that my decree was finally signed by the judge (my ex was holding things up). When I asked if that meant I was officiallt divorced on Jan. 4th, she said, I was in a sence, but there are certain legal things I wouldn't have been able to do without the decree being signed .... so the judge's signature is what made it officially, official. Still confuses me. lol
All of my paper work was right there in a folder when the judge signed papers... everything had been signed my both me and my ex... The MDA, Parentin plan and the final decree... The judge sign and said he granted me my divorce... The only thing I was told by my attorney was that I couldn't get married for 30 days and that her office would have the papers that I could pick up in about a month... Its just all confusing to me...
Thank you so much to .h00dihoo.this. for my gorgeous siggy!
My divorce was final the day I went to court, (October 30th 2007), the judge asked both me and my ex-husband if we were sure we wanted this, and if we were sure counseling could not resolve our issues, and we both agreed it wouldn't and the judge granted the divorce. I got my divorce decree about a week later in the mail!
Based off of what you have said, your divorce is finalized, you're just waiting for the final decree!
