I've done mediation twice. The second time was after the divorce when exH when wanted to change things.
With mediation, neither party gets exactly what they want. It's what you can live with. Be prepared to compromise but don't give in to something you can't stand.
Remember to tell the mediator what NOT to tell the other party. The mediator doesn't have to relay everything you say. My ex thought he was found out for not paying child support because I applied for state assistance for their insurance. It was really because I turned him in for nonpayment. But, they were eligible for state insurance because he wasn't paying like he ordered.
