Hi ladies,

This is my first post and it's a request for your opinions, thoughts, experiences, etc.

We have been official divorced for five months and my ex is engaged, although wedding has been delayed and he almost broke up with her last month.

How do you handle parent/teacher conferences? She's only known our son for four months. I don't want her in those conferences right now. I will reconsider once, and if, they get married. I think he will be agreeable to it.

But open house is coming up and that's just a meeting in the classroom with all the parents and children where the teacher will go over what to expect this year, have some handouts, etc. Still, I'd rather she didn't go because I want the teacher to know from the beginning who mom and dad are so I think having just the parents at that first meeting is important for the teacher to make the connection.

She attended the end of the year music program and field day and I was fine with that. Friends and extended family attend those. But open house is for parents only.

What is your opinion? And, if I should ask him for her not to come, how do I word it in a way that he and she won't be offended? What points should I make?

Thank you so much for any input you can give me. This is a new situation for me and I'm still learning how to navigate it.
